Congress Sells Out Online Privacy | Mar 31, 2017

How To Protect Your Online Privacy Now That Congress Sold You Out

| ZeroHedge

Authored by Eric Limer via Popular Mechanics

“All your private online data—the websites you visit, the content of your chats and emails, your health info, and your location—just became suddenly less secure. Not because of hackers, but because Congress just blocked crucial privacy regulations. This will allow your internet service provider to collect all your data and sell that info to the highest bidder without asking you first. Welcome to a brave new world.

A pair of resolutions, which passed through the Senate and House with exclusively Republican votes, roll back rules proposed by the Democratic leadership of the Federal Communications Commission during the Obama administration which, though passed in October, had not yet gone into effect.

The rules—which will be completely dead following the expected signature of President Trump—would have required ISPs to get explicit opt-in approval from customers before selling the following “sensitive data”:

This doesn’t just mean that sharing that information without your explicit permission will be fine and dandy. Since the rules were rolled back through the Congressional Review Act, the FCC is also barred from creating any “substantially similar” rules down the line.

In theory, the information collected will be stored under some sort of ID separate from your actual name. But that’s a cold comfort considering the level of detail in this sort of information would make your identity a dead giveaway, and ISPs can hardly be trusted to keep your identifying information suitably safe from prying eyes. After all, they’ll be building dossiers any hacker would love to steal.

What to do? There are a few things you can do to try and keep your data safe, and while they aren’t necessarily easy or free, they’re worth it if you value your privacy.

Opt out with your ISP

Your ISP may not need your permission to sell your data, but you can still go to them and tell them not to do it. The catch, of course, is this requires you to be proactive, and there’s no real guarantee that this will protect you completely. Still, do it. Get on the phone or visit the website of your ISP and opt out of every ad-related thing—and into every privacy-related thing—you can find. The process can be a little arduous—often requiring the use of your ISP-given email address that you probably never use—and it may not take effect immediately either. All the better reason to do it now.

Time Warner/Spectrum customers can find their privacy dashboard here. Comcast customers can opt out of some targeted programs using these instructions. Verizon customers can find opt out options here. Remember, your phone company is technically an ISP too, so look up your options on that front as well.

Opting out is an important first step, but it is not enough to actually preserve your privacy. Your ISP is not necessarily giving you the opportunity to opt out of all its ad-targeting programs. As the policy counsel at the Open Technology Institute, Eric Null, told Gizmodo, it is “highly unlikely” the new FCC will go after ISPs that aren’t offering robust opportunities to opt-out.

Keep your data out of your ISP’s hands in the first place

Your ISP is uniquely suited to snoop on your information. Anything you put online has to pass through its hands. Email you send through Gmail, chats through Facebook Messenger—they all travel through your ISP before they reach the service that actually sends them on. But while it is impossible to cut your ISP out of this exchange entirely, you can hide the data as you are sending it.

Apps with end-to-end encryption can encrypt your private information on the phone or computer you’re using, ensuring that it is coded and protected through the entire delivery process. So while your ISP can see the data go by, they can’t make sense of it.

The most seamless solution is to pay for a Virtual Private Network—a VPN—which allows you to encrypt all the data that passes through your ISP. This means that while your ISP is still doing the work of hauling your data around, it can’t understand any of it. The downside to this is that VPNs (at least any VPNs you can trust) are not free. Most good ones will require a yearly subscription. Furthermore, you aren’t hiding your personal data from everyone, you are just entrusting it to the VPN instead of your ISP, so do your research and choose a VPN you trust not to sell you out. Fortunately, since VPNs exist exclusively to keep your data private, they are pretty incentivized to keep you happy.

The only one you can really trust to protect you is you.”

Cisco Learned of Security Vulnerabilities Because of WikiLeaks CIA Dump

| Breitbart

“When WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange disclosed earlier this month that his anti-secrecy group had obtained CIA tools for hacking into technology products made by U.S. companies, security engineers at Cisco Systems swung into action.

The Wikileaks documents described how the Central Intelligence Agency had learned more than a year ago how to exploit flaws in Cisco’s widely used Internet switches, which direct electronic traffic, to enable eavesdropping.

Senior Cisco managers immediately reassigned staff from other projects to figure out how the CIA hacking tricks worked, so they could help customers patch their systems and prevent criminal hackers or spies from using the same methods, three employees told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

The Cisco engineers worked around the clock for days to analyze the means of attack, create fixes, and craft a stopgap warning about a security risk affecting more than 300 different products, said the employees, who had direct knowledge of the effort.”

Congress to US citizens: Want online privacy? Pay up!

| Computerworld

Worried consumers may resort to buying VPN services and paying higher fees to ISPs to protect their privacy

“A congressional vote to repeal U.S. restrictions on broadband providers doesn’t mean that online privacy is dead. Consumers will just have to pay for it.

The coming repeal, which President Donald Trump is expected to sign into law, paves a clearer path for broadband providers to sell customers’ internet browsing history and other online data, without their consent.

Privacy advocates are worried. Imagine corporate giants snooping on your internet activities, and then bombarding your PC, phone and TV with targeted ads.

However, the privacy rule rollback might have an opposite effect, too. Expect broadband providers and other internet services to emerge offering online privacy protections, but at a price.”

The Ultimate Online Privacy Guide

| BestVPN

Edward Snowden’s NSA spying revelations highlighted just how much we have sacrificed to the gods of technology and convenience something we used to take for granted, and once considered a basic human right – our privacy.

It is just not just the NSA. Governments the world over are racing to introduce legislation that allows to them to monitor and store every email, phone call and Instant Message, every web page visited, and every VoIP conversation made by every single one of their citizens.

The press have bandied parallels with George Orwell’s dystopian world ruled by an all-seeing Big Brother about a great deal. They are depressingly accurate.

Encryption provides a highly effective way to protect your internet behavior, communications, and data. The main problem with using encryption is that its use flags you up to organizations such as the NSA for closer scrutiny.

Details of the NSA’s data collection rules are here. What it boils down to is that the NSA examines data from US citizens, then discards it if it’s found to be uninteresting. Encrypted data, on the other hand, is stored indefinitely until the NSA can decrypt it.

The NSA can keep all data relating to non-US citizens indefinitely, but practicality suggests that encrypted data gets special attention.

If a lot more people start to use encryption, then encrypted data will stand out less, and surveillance organizations’ job of invading everyone’s privacy will be much harder. Remember – anonymity is not a crime!”

WikiLeaks Newest Release Exposes CIA Global Spying | Mar 07, 2017

WikiLeaks Exposes CIA’s Covert Global Hacking Program

| Daily Caller

“WikiLeaks has released nearly 9,000 pages of files it says exposes a covert global hacking program operated by the CIA.

The document dump, which WikiLeaks is calling “Vault 7,” is the largest publication of documents stolen from the CIA, says the group, which was founded by Julian Assange.

The veracity of the documents has not been verified and it is not yet clear whether the release marks a major breach of the CIA.

According to an explainer released by WikiLeaks, the 8,761 documents had been maintained in a high-security network at CIA’s Center for Cyber Intelligence in Langley, Va. But the group says that the CIA “lost control” of the documents after they began circulating among a 5,000-person network of former U.S. government hackers and contractors. One of those individuals is WikiLeaks’ source, the group claims.

The documents, which include more than 70,000 redactions, show how CIA hackers use malware, trojan viruses and other tools to convert electronics, including phones and smart TVs, into covert microphones used for spying. The group also says there are documents showing that the CIA uses the U.S. consulate in Frankfurt as a covert hacker base for its European operations.

Among the most salacious revelations in the WikiLeaks release come from documents showing how CIA developed techniques to hack Samsung smart TVs with British intelligence services. The malware, called Weeping Angel, records audio while the target of the hack believes the TV is turned off.

One of the documents released on Tuesday purportedly shows that the CIA was working on a program as of Oct. 2014 that would infect the vehicle control systems of certain cars and trucks.

“The purpose of such control is not specified, but it would permit the CIA to engage in nearly undetectable assassinations,” WikiLeaks asserts.”

Wikileaks: Want a look inside the CIA’s cyberespionage efforts?

|  HotAir

“First it was the NSA’s turn, and now the CIA gets its Wikileaks moment. Claiming it to be the “largest intelligence publication in history,” Wikileaks has released its first installment of documents that expose the CIA’s cyberespionage efforts. If genuine, the documents unveil operations, locations, and methods that could cripple US efforts on cyberwarfare:

The first full part of the series, “Year Zero”, comprises 8,761 documents and files from an isolated, high-security network situated inside the CIA’s Center for Cyber Intelligence in Langley, Virgina. It follows an introductory disclosure last month of CIA targeting French political parties and candidates in the lead up to the 2012 presidential election.

..

“Year Zero” introduces the scope and direction of the CIA’s global covert hacking program, its malware arsenal and dozens of “zero day” weaponized exploits against a wide range of U.S. and European company products, include Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Android and Microsoft’s Windows and even Samsung TVs, which are turned into covert microphones.”

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Currys Favor with CIA as His Washington Post Attacks Trump | Feb 17, 2017

Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Is Doing Huge Business with the CIA, While Keeping His Washington Post Readers in the Dark About it

– Alternet  |  2013

Amazon has a bad history of currying favor with the U.S. government’s “national security” establishment

News media should illuminate conflicts of interest, not embody them. But the owner of the Washington Post is now doing big business with the Central Intelligence Agency, while readers of the newspaper’s CIA coverage are left in the dark.

The Post’s new owner, Jeff Bezos, is the founder and CEO of Amazon — which recently landed a $600 million contract with the CIA. But the Post’s articles about the CIA are not disclosing that the newspaper’s sole owner is the main owner of CIA business partner Amazon.

Even for a multi-billionaire like Bezos, a $600 million contract is a big deal. That’s more than twice as much as Bezos paid to buy the Post four months ago.

And there’s likely to be plenty more where that CIA largesse came from. Amazon’s offer wasn’t the low bid, but it won the CIA contract anyway by offering advanced high-tech “cloud” infrastructure.

Bezos personally and publicly touts Amazon Web Services, and it’s evident that Amazon will be seeking more CIA contracts. Last month, Amazon issued a statement saying, “We look forward to a successful relationship with the CIA.”

As Amazon’s majority owner and the Post’s only owner, Bezos stands to gain a lot more if his newspaper does less ruffling and more soothing of CIA feathers.

Amazon has a bad history of currying favor with the U.S. government’s “national security” establishment. The media watch group FAIR pointed out what happened after WikiLeaks published State Department cables: “WikiLeaks was booted from Amazon’s webhosting service AWS. So at the height of public interest in what WikiLeaks was publishing, readers were unable to access the WikiLeaks website.”

How’s that for a commitment to the public’s right to know?

Days ago, my colleagues at RootsAction.org launched a petition that says: “The Washington Post’s coverage of the CIA should include full disclosure that the sole owner of the Post is also the main owner of Amazon — and Amazon is now gaining huge profits directly from the CIA.” More than 15,000 people have signed the petition so far this week, with many posting comments that underscore widespread belief in journalistic principles.

News media should illuminate conflicts of interest, not embody them. But the owner of the Washington Post is now doing big business with the Central Intelligence Agency, while readers of the newspaper’s CIA coverage are left in the dark.

So at the height of public interest in what WikiLeaks was publishing, readers were unable to access the WikiLeaks website.”

How’s that for a commitment to the public’s right to know?

While the Post functions as a powerhouse media outlet in the Nation’s Capital, it’s also a national and global entity — read every day by millions of people who never hold its newsprint edition in their hands. Hundreds of daily papers reprint the Post’s news articles and opinion pieces, while online readership spans the world.

Propaganda largely depends on patterns of omission and repetition. If, in its coverage of the CIA, the Washington Post were willing to fully disclose the financial ties that bind its owner to the CIA, such candor would shed some light on how top-down power actually works in our society.

“The Post is unquestionably the political paper of record in the United States, and how it covers governance sets the agenda for the balance of the news media,” journalism scholar Robert W. McChesney points out. “Citizens need to know about this conflict of interest in the columns of the Post itself.”

In a statement just released by the Institute for Public Accuracy, McChesney added: “If some official enemy of the United States had a comparable situation — say the owner of the dominant newspaper in Caracas was getting $600 million in secretive contracts from the Maduro government — the Post itself would lead the howling chorus impaling that newspaper and that government for making a mockery of a free press. It is time for the Post to take a dose of its own medicine.”

“What emerges now is what, in intelligence parlance, is called an ‘agent of influence’ owning the Post — with a huge financial interest in playing nice with the CIA,” said former CIA official Ray McGovern. “In other words, two main players nourishing the national security state in undisguised collaboration.”

A former reporter for the Washington Post and many other news organizations, John Hanrahan, said: “It’s all so basic. Readers of the Washington Post, which reports frequently on the CIA, are entitled to know — and to be reminded on a regular basis in stories and editorials in the newspaper and online — that the Post‘s new owner Jeff Bezos stands to benefit substantially from Amazon’s $600 million contract with the CIA.

Even with such disclosure, the public should not feel assured they are getting tough-minded reporting on the CIA. One thing is certain: Post reporters and editors are aware that Bezos, as majority owner of Amazon, has a financial stake in maintaining good relations with the CIA — and this sends a clear message to even the hardest-nosed journalist that making the CIA look bad might not be a good career move.”

Amazon-CIA Cloud Contract Is A Recipe For Big Brother Hell, Warn Privacy Activists

– International Business Times

“The slogan “Amazon and you’re done” may have just taken on a whole new meaning — at least for enemies of the state.

Privacy advocates and media watchdogs are challenging a contract between Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, calling it a potentially “ominous” convergence of mass surveillance and perpetual war.

In an online petition launched this month, the group RootsAction called on Amazon’s chief executive, Jeff Bezos, to make a “legally binding” commitment to Amazon users that it won’t share customer data with the CIA. Following a lengthy legal battle, Amazon in October defeated IBM (NYSE:IBM) in a bid for a $600 million cloud computing contract. Under the 10-year deal, Amazon’s cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services, will build and operate a dedicated, private computer cloud for the agency.

“The relationship means that Amazon — logoed with a smiley-face arrow from A to Z, selling products to millions of people every week — is responsible for keeping the CIA’s secrets and aggregating data to help the agency do its work,” wrote Norman Solomon, co-founder of RootsAction, in a blog post. “Including drone strikes.”

Solomon added — somewhat melodramatically — that should President Barack Obama order the CIA to kill a U.S. citizen, Amazon would be a “partner in assassination.”

In an email to IBTimes on Sunday, Solomon said the group’s petition had been signed by upwards of 27,000 in just the last few days. At last check, it was up to just under 30,000, with many commenters not holding back their disgust over the alliance.

“OK, Bezos, you’re rich enough and powerful enough that everybody is duly impressed,” one person wrote. “Now get a grip on yourself and get out of bed with the CIA. Those guys are evil.”

“If you can’t respect consumer privacy, it will be necessary to reevaluate doing business with your company,” wrote another.”

Chinese Ambassador Requested Meeting With Top Clinton Campaign Aides

– Daily Caller

“Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. Cui Tiankai requested a meeting with Hillary Clinton’s top aides in January 2016, according to an internal email circulated among the former secretary of State’s senior presidential campaign officials.

“Chinese Ambassador Cui invited me over to the residence Tuesday for a coffee and to make a request. He wants to have an informal, private, off the record get together with a few of us to discuss the next year and the current state of US-China affairs,” wrote Clinton campaign aide Kurt Campbell in the Jan. 7, 2016, email.

“He asked me to host a social meal at my house in the next month. He was fairly insistent and indicated that he wanted to pass along some perspectives. I told him I’d reach out to you all to see about your judgement on this and possible availability. I’m happy to make some chili and cornbread by the fire but let’s first decide whether this makes sense. Please let me know your thinking,” Campbell said.

The email is one among hundreds of emails to and from Clinton campaign manager John Podesta that were made public by Wikileaks during the 2016 election cycle.”

Newt Gingrich on Veritas Videos: ‘Where’s the FBI?’

– PJ Media

newt-gingrich-wheres-the-fbi-sized-770x415xcx

“In the wake of the two bombshell Project Veritas videos that show Democratic operatives engaging in nefarious and possibly illegal campaign activities, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a pointed question:

“Where is the FBI, why is the FBI not investigating this?” he asked, “You have a deliberate, willful effort to foment violence, to break up a presidential campaign, [and] to intimidate voters.”

Gingrich joined Sean Hannity on Fox News Tuesday evening to discuss the undercover video tapes released by James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas. The former speaker said that there needs to be an investigation into the Clinton campaign right now, because there is direct evidence linking one of the miscreants to the Clinton campaign: “We also now have actual checks cut by the campaign to one of the operatives,” Gingrich noted.

“I know [FBI Director Jim] Comey’s in the tank for Hillary but he has some obligation to enforce the law and the FBI should be opening up an investigation…right now,” Gingrich said.”

Hillary Clinton Jokes to Goldman Sachs: We’re Going to Give China a ‘Red State’

– Breitbart

hillary2x

Hillary Clinton told Goldman Sachs that she would give the Chinese a “red state” if she was ever in a position where she had to swap territory back and forth with the Chinese.

Clinton made the remarks in a private paid speech to Goldman Sachs on October 29, 2013, according to speech transcripts released as part of Wikileaks’ John Podesta email dump. Clinton first talks about China taking land in the Pacific that the United States could theoretically take, which would re-name the Pacific Ocean the “American Sea”:

Goldman Sachs chairman Lloyd Blankfein then joked about giving the Chinese New Jersey, and Clinton said that we would give the Chinese a red state, according to the transcripts:

MR. BLANKFEIN:  These are more technical conversations than I thought they would be. (Laughter.)

SECRETARY CLINTON:  Yes, yes.  And then he says to me, well, you know, we’ll claim Hawaii.  And I said, yeah, but we have proof we bought it.  Do you have proof you brought any of these places you’re claiming?  So we got into the nitty-gritty of—

MR. BLANKFEIN:  But they have to take New Jersey.          (Laughter.)

SECRETARY CLINTON:  No, no, no.  We’re going to give them a red state.”

“If you want to remain on this detail, get your f**king ass over here and grab those bags!”
Hillary Clinton

“The Clinton campaign (Washington Post) released audio on Friday of Donald Trump talking about hitting on a hot woman in 2005.

Hillary Clinton tweeted out that she was “shocked!” in response to the audio.

Hillary Clinton has a long history of violence and abusing and men, women and security officers.

Here are a few of her more memorable lines:

“Where is the G-damn f**king flag? I want the G-damn f**king flag up every f**king morning at f**king sunrise.”
(From the book “Inside The White House” by Ronald Kessler, p. 244 – Hillary to the staff at the Arkansas Governor’s mansion on Labor Day, 1991)

“You sold out, you mother f**ker! You sold out!”
From the book “Inside” by Joseph Califano, p. 213 – Hillary yelling at Democrat lawyer.

F**k off! It’s enough that I have to see you shit-kickers every day, I’m not going to talk to you too!! Just do your G*damn job and keep your mouth shut.”
(From the book “American Evita” by Christopher Anderson, p. 90 – Hillary to her State Trooper bodyguards after one of them greeted her with “Good morning.”

“You f**king idiot.”
(From the book “Crossfire” p. 84 – Hillary to a State Trooper who was driving her to an event.)

“If you want to remain on this detail, get your f**king ass over here and grab those bags!”

Hillary Clinton’s Vulgarity Makes Trump Look Like Shakespeare!

– Legal Insurrection

hillblitzed

“I was astonished that Hillary Clinton wept as she decried bullying, after Donald Trump’s used of the word “schlong”.

A woman who is seeking the office of “Commander-in-Chief” should really show a little more intestinal fortitude.

The act is laughable, because her own use of profanity is so notorious that there are whole books on the subject!

A California friend, Bill Monroe, offers this example.

Hillary’s vulgar and nasty language is well documented. To directly quote her: ‘F**k off! It’s enough that I have to see you ****-kickers every day, I’m not going to talk to you too!! Just do your G*damn job and keep your mouth shut.’

(From the book American Evita by Christopher Anderson, p. 90 – Hillary to her State Trooper bodyguards after one of them greeted her with “Good Morning.”)

That is not the only tome that documents Clinton’s legendary temper. Another book, Unlikeable: The Problem with Hillary Clinton, recounts an episode with Obama as the target of one of her grand tirades.

Clinton requested a meeting with Obama, against the advice of hubby Bill Clinton, believing “she was being persecuted for minor, meaningless violations,” author Edward Klein writes.

Clinton initially took a friendly approach during the meeting and Obama reacted as if he didn’t know what she was talking about, the book claims.

“He was almost being deliberately dense,” a Clinton source said. “It really angered her.”

Clinton lost her temper and called the president by his first name in an emotionally driven break with White House decorum, according to the book.

“What I want for you to do is call off your f–king dogs, Barack!” Clinton allegedly barked at Obama, according to Klein’s account, which cited sources close to Clinton and Obama senior adviser Valerie Jarrett.

Obama got off lightly compared to her husband, according to an episode described in a third book, The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House.

[Author Kate Andersen] Brower gave an interview with CNN in which she is laughing and smiling while telling the story of Hillary Clinton’s violent, bloody attack on her husband the President of the United States.

Apparently, spousal abuse is funny if committed by a feminist icon running for president.

An example of how the political press is playing this comes from Politico, which published a lengthy book excerpt that left out Hillary’s alleged bloody attack on Bill.

Politico did lead with the ‘lamp throwing’ incident which as the Clinton defenders might say, is ‘old news’. But Politico left out the damning alleged criminal attack.

The Questionable Verbal Attacks of Hillary Clinton on Govt Employees

– dcclothesline.com

“It is said that a measure of our character is how well we treat status inferiors –  those whom we don’t have to treat well.

By that measure, the character of the woman who has ambitions to be America’s next president is sorely lacking.

FOTM’s joworth forwarded us an email written by a retired United States Marine CorpscolonelEd Schriber. What Col. Schriber did was to comb through books written about Hillary Rodham Clinton, quoting verbatim from pages in those books on Hillary’s penchant to use obscene blasphemous language, and the utter contempt and disdain she has for those who work for her or more correctly, her husband – Arkansas State troopers, Secret Service agents, and members of the U.S. military.

Since I don’t have those books in my personal library, I went on Amazon.com to verify those quotes by using Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature. In every case where Amazon provides a “Look Inside” feature, I was able to confirm the quotes and take a screenshot of the relevant passage.”

Hillary Exposed As a Complete and Total Fraud to Wall & Main Street | Oct 2016

New Email Bombshells….Devastating Wikileaks: Hillary ‘Dreams’ of ‘Open Borders’, ‘Open Trade’, ‘Single Payer’

– IndependentSentinel.com

hillaryclintondemocraticpresidentialcandidateq7qjwo1gf1hlx

Hillary dreams of ‘open borders’, ‘open trade’, and ‘Single Payer’ healthcare. She also admits to being far removed from the middle class [that is the middle class she had promised to tax more in at least one speech].

Furthermore, she has given speeches in which she extensively talked about her knowledge of security, particularly around Blackberries.

Hillary also showed a lot of sympathy for the rich. Bernie supporters won’t like that.

That is according to Hillary’s own speeches and emails.

Wikileaks dumped some devastating emails and transcripts of Wall Street speeches Friday — we have only scratched the surface. The emails are from a Clinton operative to Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, Brian Fallon and others — they include summaries of Hillary’s Wall Street speeches.

The speeches were given to Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, GE, the National Multi-Housing Council, other Wall Street firms, et al.  There are emails with Podesta stating they will scrub the campaign and make their campaign fit the public aspirations.

Hillary boasted of her tremendous efforts to defend and protect Wall Street.

The campaign has told the public the opposite of what Hillary has told Wall Street. What she said in private is the OPPOSITE of what she says in public.”

Leaked emails show Clinton professing Different Messages to Wall Street and the Public on Trade

– Business Insider

kim-jong-un-hillary-gettyap-640x480x

You Need Both A Public And A Private Position.” – Hillary Clinton

In private speeches she gave to banks, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton seems to have expressed a stance on trade that differs from what she’s said publicly during the campaign cycle.

Emails posted by WikiLeaks on Friday include partial transcripts from speeches that the Clinton campaign has previously refused to release.

“But If Everybody’s Watching, You Know, All Of The Back Room Discussions And The Deals, You Know, Then People Get A Little Nervous, To Say The Least. So, You Need Both A Public And A Private Position.” – Hillary Clinton

In one speech she gave to a Brazilian bank in 2013, she advocated for “open trade and open borders.”

“My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders, some time in the future with energy that is as green and sustainable as we can get it, powering growth and opportunity for every person in the hemisphere,” Clinton said.

In the same speech, she also said the US needs “a concerted plan to increase trade already under the current circumstances.”

The Clinton campaign has not confirmed the authenticity of the emails.

The speech excerpts were included in an email from Tony Carrk, research director for the Clinton campaign, that was sent to other campaign officials, including chairman John Podesta and communications director Jennifer Palmieri.

Clinton says on the campaign trail that she opposes the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a free-trade agreement championed by President Barack Obama that aims to slash tariffs and promote economic growth among 12 nations in the Pacific Rim.

Clinton has publicly opposed TPP since October 2015, when the text of the deal was finalized.

“I oppose it now, I’ll oppose it after the election, and I’ll oppose it as president,” she said at a campaign rally in Michigan in August.

But her opposition marked a departure from the praise she gave the deal during her tenure as secretary of state. She once said TPP “sets the gold standard of trade agreements.”

In another private speech mentioned in the Carrk email, Clinton said it’s important to have both a “public” and “private” position on certain issues.

“If everybody’s watching, you know, all of the back room discussions and the deals, you know, then people get a little nervous, to say the least,” she said. “So, you need both a public and a private position. ”
