DHS: Iran travel could be exempt from tighter visa rules

– Washington Examiner Jan 21

dh1

“The Obama administration announced Thursday that it has started to implement a law passed last month that will deny foreign nationals from using the U.S. Visa Waiver Program if they’ve traveled to Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Syria.

But it also outlined the different kinds of waivers it might grant people who have traveled to those countries, exceptions that were already ginning up political opposition from Republicans.

One of these is a specific waiver for people doing “legitimate” business in Iran. The State Department has warned for weeks that this kind of exception might be possible under the law, and the Department of Homeland Security said in a press release Thursday that there were several other kinds of travel that are “eligible” for a waiver of the tighter visa rules.”

GOP explodes in anger as Obama creates Iran exemption for visas

– The Hill Jan 21

gop1

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Thursday announced changes to the easy-entry visa waiver program, which allows citizens from 38 countries — including Australia, France and Japan — to enter the United States without a visa.

The DHS said its new policy will not prohibit people from the 38 countries from entering the U.S. if they have recently traveled to or are dual citizens of Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Syria, which are considered hotbeds of terrorism.

Instead, those people — who otherwise would have been eligible to participate in the visa waiver program — will have to obtain a visa through the State Department.

However, the administration is also creating a carve-case-by-case basis” to people who have traveled there for “legitimate business-related purposes” following adoption of the nuclear deal last year. ”

“Children as young as seven are working 12-hour days in dangerous conditions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo to mine the cobalt many global tech firms use in their smartphones, computers and cars, according to a report Amnesty International and African Resources Watch (Afrewatch)released today. The report claims the companies, which include Apple, Microsoft and Samsung, are not performing the basic checks that would ensure mineral mining operations don’t use child labor.”

Investigate CAIR Says Ben Carson | Jan 14, 2016

Dr. Ben Carson Continues to Call for Thorough Investigation of U.S. Muslim Group CAIR

– BenCarson.com

bc1

“Alexandria, Va. – January 14, 2016 – Dr. Carson, retired neurosurgeon and 2016 GOP presidential candidate, continues to call for the U.S. government to conduct a full investigation into the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), a U.S. Muslim group. CAIR has extensive ties to foreign terrorist groups, such as Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, and was once named by federal prosecutors as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in a plot to facilitate terrorist financing.

CAIR has repeatedly and openly expressed support for terrorism, disdain for the U.S. Constitution and a desire for America to be ruled under Sharia law. Three Muslim countries, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia and Egypt, have designated the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates, which include CAIR, as terrorist organizations.

CAIR has long hidden behind a thin veil of advocacy, using political correctness to attack anyone who would expose their extremist roots. We can’t let a fear of offending obscure domestic terrorists prevent us from subjecting CAIR to the full scrutiny of law enforcement. CAIR’s ideals and activities do not represent the views of America’s peace-loving and patriotic Muslim communities. We must investigate this organization immediately in order to safeguard the security of the American people.”

Why the U.A.E. is calling 2 American groups terrorists

– Washington Post – 2014

wp1

“United Arab Emirates released a list of designated terrorist groups and organizations over the weekend, with more than 80 different groups from around the world blacklisted. The list covers a variety of well-known names, including al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, al Shabab and Boko Haram.

It is the inclusion of two very specific groups, however, that made the list a hot topic on a number of right wing U.S. news sites. Two American groups that represent Muslims — the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim American Society — had been designated terrorist groups by the Gulf state.”

Boeing Shuts Down Last Long Beach Plant – 2016

Last Boeing C-17 Leaves Long Beach Plant Killed by Union

– Breitbart

c17c

– One more example of Gov Brown not lifting a finger to save Californian jobs. After Toyota, now this in Long Beach.

“Once responsible for 50,000 jobs, the C-17 program accounted for only about 14,000 jobs throughout California by 2010. With military aircraft orders starting to dry up and the Great Recession hammering Long Beach’s economy, Boeing made demands that workers accept benefit concessions.

Although the company was willing to offer a 3.4 percent raise in pay, Boeing wanted a lower company pension contribution and higher employee medical co-pays to remain competitive against Europe’s Airbus.

U.S. orders for the $240 million plane had ended four years earlier, but the company had started to sell C-17s to fleets in Britain, Australia, Canada and Qatar. The Long Beach plant had just received a six-plane, $1.5 billion order from the United Arab Emirates to be delivered in 2012, and more orders were expected to flow in.

But on May 12, 2010, 5,000 members of the United Auto Workers Local 148 answered the call with 80 percent of workers voting against the company offer and going out on strike against Boeing at midnight–the first strike in 25 years.

With 9.5 percent of Americans unemployed and 932,234 properties in foreclosure, industry analysts and the public were appalled that the UAW would walk out. The strike ended a month later, but the bitterness of the strike motivated Boeing to begin talks about terminating the C-17 program and shutting down the site.”

“During the memorable clash between Donald Trump and Ted Cruz at last night’s Republican presidential debate, the real estate mogul explained why he has persistently raised questions about his Canadian-born rival’s eligibility to serve as president.

“If for some reason…he beats the rest of the field, I already know the Democrats are going to be bringing a suit,” Trump said. “You have a big lawsuit over your head while you’re running. And if you become the nominee, who the hell knows if you can even serve in office?”

Don’t Look Now, but It’s Not Just Ted Cruz With an Eligibility Problem

– PJ Media

rube1

“Rubio was born in Miami in 1971. But Rubio’s Cuban immigrant parents did not become U.S. citizens until 1975.That’s convinced so-called birthers to conclude Rubio is ineligible under Article 2 of the Constitution, which says “no person except a natural born citizen … shall be eligible to the Office of President.” The questions arose in 2011 when Rubio was being talked about as Mitt Romney’s running mate.

“It’s nothing to do with him personally. But you can’t change the rules because you like a certain person. Then you have no rules,” New Jersey lawyer Mario Apuzzo told the Tampa Bay Times in 2011.

It’s probably time for the courts to sort this out. America has sustained more than a half century of untrammeled immigration, and this question is going to keep coming up until it’s finally sorted.

A Fort Lauderdale man in December filed a complaint against Rubio and Cruz, arguing they are “naturalized citizens, or at the very least, simply fail to comply with the common law Supreme Court established definition of natural born citizen …”

Washington Post Op-Ed makes the case that Ted Cruz is not a ‘natural born’ US Citizen

“In this election cycle, numerous pundits have declared that Cruz is eligible to be president. They rely on a supposed consensus among legal experts. This notion appears to emanate largely from a recent comment in the Harvard Law Review Forum by former solicitors general Neal Katyal and Paul Clement. In trying to put the question of who is a natural-born citizen to rest, however, the authors misunderstand, misapply and ignore the relevant law.”

Defining Natural-Born Citizen

– Federalist Blog

“The common law of England is not the common law of these States.” –George Mason

What might the phrase “natural-born citizen” of the United States imply under the U.S. Constitution? The phrase has always been obscure due to the lack of any single authoritative source to confer in order to understand the condition of citizenship the phrase recognizes. Learning what the phrase might have meant following the Declaration of Independence, and the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment, requires detective work. As with all detective work, eliminating the usual suspects from the beginning goes a long way in quickly solving a case.

Sweden Begins Demanding ID for ‘Refugees’

The Latest: Europe Begins to Tighten Its Borders

– Yahoo

mc8

“Danes increased border crossing checks on Monday, a move to make sure migrants headed for Sweden and turned back there don’t get stuck in Denmark.

That decision came hours after Sweden demanded that all arriving passengers show ID, a way of trying to discourage migrants, many of whom don’t carry passports or other forms of ID, from entering Sweden, which received a record 160,000 asylum-seekers in 2015.

 – Imagine that, asking for ID before allowing entry into a country.
