Did Democrats Aid and Abet Terrorists Seeking American Secrets? | Feb 28, 2017

– Spectator.org

“Since Donald Trump took office there has been ubiquitous media coverage of what can most properly be termed crap.

There was the fake story about the bust of Martin Luther King that was supposedly removed from the Oval Office. There was the New York Times’ slanted report claiming contacts of some frequency between the Donald Trump campaign and The Russians! And more recently, there was the pitiful Associated Press piece screaming about the new administration’s plans to use the National Guard to deport illegal aliens. Those are just some highlights of what the president has taken to gleefully term “fake news” as he skewers the Democrat-leaning media.

It’s not so surprising those outlets spend time on contrivances. Without The Russians! and those vaporous Trump abuses calling forth the echoes of Hitler and his brownshirts, airtime and column space might have to be devoted to other stories which would be less useful to the various narratives being concocted in New York and Washington editorial conference rooms.

One such inconvenient story is that of the Awan brothers.

Oh, you don’t know who the Awan brothers are? That’s also not surprising.

Let’s go back three weeks, to a firing.

Three brothers who managed office information technology for members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and other lawmakers were abruptly relieved of their duties on suspicion that they accessed congressional computers without permission.

Brothers Abid, Imran, and Jamal Awan were barred from computer networks at the House of Representatives Thursday, The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has learned.

Three members of the intelligence panel and five members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs were among the dozens of members who employed the suspects on a shared basis. The two committees deal with many of the nation’s most sensitive issues and documents, including those related to the war on terrorism.

Also among those whose computer systems may have been compromised is Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Florida Democrat who was previously the target of a disastrous email hack when she served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee during the 2016 campaign.

The way things work on Capitol Hill is that each member of Congress runs almost like a little mom and pop business, and auxiliary office functions like IT are usually contracted out — but within the public sector. In the case of the Brothers Awan, they were quite popular with House Democrats — perhaps thanks to Wasserman Schultz’s recommendation.

And what an august client list the Awans, who hail from Pakistan, amassed. Some 50 or so, in fact, including…

All three of the Pakistani brothers had been employed by Democrats. The offices that employed them included HPSCI minority members Speier, Carson and Joaquín Castro. Congressman Castro, who also sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, utilized the services of Jamal Moiz Awan. Speier and Carson’s offices utilized Imran Awan.

Abid A. Awan was employed by Lois Frankel and Ted Lieu: members of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. Also on the committee is Castro. As is Robin Kelly whose office employed Jamal Awan.  Lieu also sits on the subcommittees on National Security and Information Technology of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Tammy Duckworth’s office had also employed Abid. Before Duckworth successfully played on the sympathy of voters to become Senator Tammy Duckworth, she had been on the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces of the Armed Services Committee.

Gwen Graham, who had also been on the Armed Services Committee and on the Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee, had employed Jamal Awan. Jamal was also employed by Cedric Richmond’s office. Richmond sits on the Committee on Homeland Security and on its Terrorism and Cybersecurity subcommittee. He is a ranking member of the latter subcommittee. Also employing Jamal was Mark Takano of the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.

Imran had worked for the office of John Sarbanes who sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee that oversees, among other things, the nuclear industry. Other members of the Committee employing the brothers included Yvette Clarke, who also sits on the Bipartisan Encryption Working Group, Diana DeGette, Dave Loebsack and Tony Cardenas.

Andre Carson and Jackie Speier were signatories to a letter last year that eight Democrats on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence wrote to the chairman (Tom Price) and ranking Democrat (Wasserman Schultz, who we would surmise solicited the letter) demanding that funding be provided so their staffers might be given access to Top Secret Compartmented Information Security (TS/SCI) Clearance.

Now, we don’t need to ask any of the obvious questions here — like for example whether Wasserman Schultz gave the Awans an IT contract on the side for the Democratic National Committee, or whether any of the Democrats employing them were read into Middle East military actions, like for example the ill-fated raid in Yemen in which Navy SEAL Ryan Owens was killed.

It seems self-evident how much potential destruction these people may have caused if they happened to be stealing our national secrets and selling them to various buyers in the Muslim world.

One might well look at the set of circumstances laid out above and see in it a scandal that would make Watergate look like a petty break-in. One might then scratch his or her head and wonder — why on earth would the New York Times or the Washington Post, which incidentally just hired John Podesta (speaking of horrendous cybersecurity!) as a columnist, have virtually no interest in the Awans at all?

Do Carlos Slim and Jeff Bezos, one might ask, really believe they can’t sell papers with such a story to tell?

And then one might conclude Trump is well within his rights to treat these people as enemy propagandists, because to have buried such a profoundly disturbing story sure looks like a mockery of the public’s trust.”

As the article points out, why is the Mainstream Media ignoring this scandal coming out of the Democrats in Congress? The constant focus on the superfluous and false, at the expense of the critical is simply inexcusable. And dangerous. Diane Feinstein, Jackie Speier, Adam Schiff and Ted Lieu need to start explaining how this occurred. Or they need to begin recusing themselves from any national security issues before Congress. /CJ

DACA Advocates Fear ‘dreamers’ are subject to deportation | Feb 27, 2017

Advocates warn ‘dreamers’ to lie low as Trump ramps up deportation plans

– WashingtonPost

“Immigration lawyers and advocacy groups are advising undocumented immigrants not to enroll in a federal deferred-action program created by President Barack Obama over fears that the Trump administration will use their personal information to detain and deport them.

The caution reflects deepening anxiety over sweeping new enforcement guidelines from Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly that aim to ramp up deportations of the nation’s 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Kelly’s directives do not overturn the program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which has granted renewable, two-year work permits to more than 750,000 immigrants who came to the country illegally as children. But lawyers said that the broad expansion of the Department of Homeland Security’s enforcement powers has heightened the risk for immigrants who have registered with the agency.

Under the program, applicants are required to present proof of their identity, such as a passport or birth certificate, and show documentation of where they go to school or work.

“The main risk is bringing attention to yourself,” said Gregory Chen, advocacy director for the 14,000-member American Immigration Lawyers Association, which is advising people not to enroll. “Our reading of the DHS memos, and we’ve looked carefully at the language that creates an exception for and retains DACA, is that they really are cold comfort to anyone concerned about the viability of their immigration status.”

The uncertainty threatens to place Obama’s signature immigration program in an indefinite state of limbo and lower participation levels even if President Trump does not formally end it. Trump had derided DACA as an “unconstitutional executive amnesty” in a speech in August, but he has equivocated since taking office.

At a news conference this month, Trump called the program “one of the most difficult subjects I have” and pledged to “show great heart” toward those enrolled in DACA, commonly known as “dreamers.

DHS officials said concerns that DACA recipients would be targeted for deportation were unfounded, and they emphasized that the agency continues to process applications as it had under the Obama administration.

“We don’t want there to be fear or panic,” said Gillian Christensen, an agency spokeswoman. “We’ve made it pretty clear that DACA recipients are not affected” by the DHS directives.

But advocates said they have little faith in those promises, pointing out that Kelly’s memos state that DHS “no longer will exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement.” On the day the memos were released, White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that “everybody who is here illegally is subject to removal at any time.”

Poll: Half of College Students Believe Their Student Loans Will Be Forgiven

– Breitbart

“Half of college students believe their student loans will be forgiven after graduation, according to a recent poll.

LendEDU, “a private firm that connects students and their families with student loans and loan refinancing,” conducted a survey that found 49.8 percent of students believe the government would forgive their student loans after graduation, the New York Post reported.

Despite what these students believe, there are actually a limited number of instances where the government can forgive student loans.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, federal student loan borrowers can have their loans forgiven “if they enter public service jobs for a specified period of time, agree to teach in an underserved area, die or become permanently disabled, or if the school they attended shuts down while they are enrolled or within 120 days after they leave.”

“The biggest exemption is the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, and very few students go into public service,” said Nate Matherson, a co-founder of LendEDU. He also said the actual number of those who qualify for student loan forgiveness is less than 10 percent.

“Many students polled said they would rely on financial aid to make up the difference in reduced debt load,” reports the Post.

Ninety percent of students knew of FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), but most of those did not know the proper filing deadline.

“The fact that many students do not understand this means that they may be significantly underestimating the cost of financing a college education,” Matherson said.”

Academic Freedom at Risk on U.S. Campuses “Growing Intellectual Intolerance” | Feb 27, 2017

Intellectual Intolerance – Stunning Speech From Stanford University Provost Exposes “The Threat From Within”

– ZeroHedge

“In a remarkable – for its honesty and frankness – statement on the intellectual rot within America’s Ivory Towers, Stanford University Provost John Etchemendy lay bare the challenges that higher education face in the coming, increasingly divisive, years.

The Threat From Within

Universities are a fundamental force of good in the world. At their best, they mine knowledge and understanding, wisdom and insight, and then freely distribute these treasures to society at large. Theirs is not a monopoly on this undertaking, but in the concentration of effort and single-mindedness of purpose, they are truly unique institutions. If Aristotle is right that what defines a human is rationality, then they are the most distinctive, perhaps the pinnacle, of human endeavors.

I share this thought to remind us all why we do what we do – why we care so much about Stanford and what it represents. But I also say it to voice a concern. Universities are under attack, both from outside and from within.

The threat from outside is apparent. Potential cuts in federal funding would diminish our research enterprise and our ability to fund graduate education. Taxing endowments would limit the support we can give to faculty and the services we can provide our students. Indiscriminate travel restrictions would impede the free exchange of ideas and scholars. All of these threats have intensified in recent years – and recent months have given them a reality that is hard to ignore.

But I’m actually more worried about the threat from within. Over the years, I have watched a growing intolerance at universities in this country – not intolerance along racial or ethnic or gender lines – there, we have made laudable progress. Rather, a kind of intellectual intolerance, a political one-sidedness, that is the antithesis of what universities should stand for. It manifests itself in many ways: in the intellectual monocultures that have taken over certain disciplines; in the demands to disinvite speakers and outlaw groups whose views we find offensive; in constant calls for the university itself to take political stands. We decry certain news outlets as echo chambers, while we fail to notice the echo chamber we’ve built around ourselves.

This results in a kind of intellectual blindness that will, in the long run, be more damaging to universities than cuts in federal funding or ill-conceived constraints on immigration. It will be more damaging because we won’t even see it: We will write off those with opposing views as evil or ignorant or stupid, rather than as interlocutors worthy of consideration. We succumb to the all-purpose ad hominem because it is easier and more comforting than rational argument. But when we do, we abandon what is great about this institution we serve.

It will not be easy to resist this current. As an institution, we are continually pressed by faculty and students to take political stands, and any failure to do so is perceived as a lack of courage. But at universities today, the easiest thing to do is to succumb to that pressure. What requires real courage is to resist it. Yet when those making the demands can only imagine ignorance and stupidity on the other side, any resistance will be similarly impugned.

The university is not a megaphone to amplify this or that political view, and when it does it violates a core mission. Universities must remain open forums for contentious debate, and they cannot do so while officially espousing one side of that debate.

But we must do more. We need to encourage real diversity of thought in the professoriate, and that will be even harder to achieve. It is hard for anyone to acknowledge high-quality work when that work is at odds, perhaps opposed, to one’s own deeply held beliefs. But we all need worthy opponents to challenge us in our search for truth. It is absolutely essential to the quality of our enterprise.

I fear that the next few years will be difficult to navigate. We need to resist the external threats to our mission, but in this, we have many friends outside the university willing and able to help. But to stem or dial back our academic parochialism, we are pretty much on our own. The first step is to remind our students and colleagues that those who hold views contrary to one’s own are rarely evil or stupid, and may know or understand things that we do not. It is only when we start with this assumption that rational discourse can begin, and that the winds of freedom can blow.

We wish John well in his future endeavors as we are sure there will be a groundswell of hurt feelings demanding his resignation for dropping another truth bomb on their safe space.”

Sanctuary Cities for Criminals | Feb 25, 2017

Santa Cruz police chief, feds in immigration probe spat | Apologizes for cooperating with federal govt

– Yahoo News

“SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A California police chief and a mayor accused federal agents Thursday of duping local officers assisting in the takedown of suspected members of a notorious El Salvador-based gang into helping make immigration arrests.

Santa Cruz is a so-called sanctuary city, which prohibits its police from cooperating with federal authorities investigating immigration violations.

Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel and assistant chief Dan Flippo said Thursday that Department of Homeland Security officials lied when they assured them a Feb. 13 joint operation in the region would not include immigration-related arrests during the gang raids. Flippo said he learned a “number” of immigration arrests were made the next night when dozens of protesters disrupted a Santa Cruz City Council meeting to voice their displeasure.

But James Schwab, a spokesman for the San Francisco field office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in a statement that agents did only what they agreed to before the raid, and that any suggestion otherwise are “completely false, reckless, and disturbing.”

Santa Cruz police and immigration agents arrested 10 people allegedly associated with the MS-13 gang, also known as Mara Salvatrucha. Seven were charged with extortion and three with drug dealing.  Some of those arrested have been connected to four Santa Cruz homicides, the chief said. The chief said the department no longer trusts DHS and will no longer work with the agency. ICE is a subsidiary of DHS.

“We can’t cooperate with a law enforcement agency we cannot trust,” Vogel said.

Flippo said the gang-related arrests were the culmination of a five-year investigation launched when a Santa Cruz resident called police to complain about gang members extorting local businesses. Flippo said his department enlisted the help of DHS because of the gang’s notoriety and global reach. He said the raids were made Feb. 13 because it appeared gang members were planning a murder.

Flippo said at press conference Thursday that an additional 10 or more people agents encountered at the dozen residences raided Feb. 13 were arrested on immigration charges. Flippo says it appears most of them were later released after being ordered to wear GPS monitoring devices and given future court dates in immigration court.

Schwab, the federal spokesman, acknowledged that 11 people were detained on immigration charges, but that police had agreed before the raid that some foreign nationals might be briefly held until their identities and case histories could be determined. Schwab said that’s exactly what happened, and 10 of the 11 immigrants were released. One of them remains in custody because of his criminal history and possible ties to the gang investigation.

Santa Cruz Mayor Cynthia Chase said she is “deeply disturbed and upset. I’m outraged.” The police chief and mayor each apologized to city residents for unwittingly violating Santa Cruz’s sanctuary city policy.

President Donald Trump threatened in January to withhold federal funding from some 400 cities nationwide that have adopted similar policies.

But federal officials also denied that the new administration had anything to do with their plans or actions.”

Univision’s Jorge Ramos Tells Latinos America Is “Our Country, Not Theirs”

– theGatewayPundit

“They say after a drinks, the truth always comes out. Not with Univision’s Jorge Ramos, as all he needs is a latino audience and a camera. The television anchor let it be known who he thinks the United States really “belongs to” at the Univision Music Awards.

From NewsBusters:

Further ramping up his open opposition to President Trump’s immigration law enforcement policies, Univision anchor Jorge Ramos has let loose with an outrageous tirade that could best be described as equal parts nationalistic identity politics, racially-driven demagoguery, and yet another instance of the irresponsible conflation of legal and illegal immigration.

Here’s how the Univision/Fusion anchor kicked off his participation in the 2017 edition of the network’s annual entertainment awards show, Premios Lo Nuestro (“Our Awards”):

JORGE RAMOS, SENIOR NEWS ANCHOR, UNIVISION: I am an immigrant, just like many of you. I am a proud Latino immigrant here in the United States. My name is Jorge Ramos, and I work at Univision and at the Fusion network. And you know exactly what is going on here in the United States. There are many people who do not want us to be here, and who want to create a wall in order to separate us. But you know what? This is also our country. Let me repeat this: OUR country, not theirs. It is our country. And we are not going to leave. We are nearly 60 million Latinos in the United States. And thanks to US, the United States eats, grows and, as we’ve seen today, sings and dances. So when they attack us, we already know what we are going to do. We are not going to sit down. We will not shut up. And we will not leave. That is what we are going to do.

This certainly isn’t the first time Ramos has gotten fired up about immigration or anything Trump related, for that matter. The anchor was swiftly removed from a Trump presser over the summer.”

– Interesting to note, Ramos entered the United States on a ‘student’ visa to study journalism at UCLA Extension in Los Angeles. He had already been employed as a journalist in Mexico. Ramos is in fact an illegal alien working in the United States. /CJ

Family Argues Mexican National Killed by Border Patrol Had Constitutional Rights

– Breitbart

“A Mexican family whose son was killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent told the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday that the agent violated their son’s constitutional rights by using unnecessary deadly force. A preliminary issue is whether the Constitution applies to someone who is not a citizen of the U.S. and was standing on Mexican soil at the time of the shooting.

The incident occurred in 2010 on the Mexico-Texas border at El Paso, Texas, and Juarez, Mexico. Fifteen-year-old Sergio Hernandez Guereca was shot on the Mexican side when the agent was on U.S. soil. The family argues that the area was “controlled” by the United States. The federal government, through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), maintains that the agent is entitled to qualified immunity.

In their petition filed in the U.S. Supreme Court, the family of the teen states “This Court should make clear that our border is not an on/off switch for the Constitution’s most fundamental protections.”

The oral argument came right after the Trump Administration issued directives calling for the immediate construction of a border wall, as reported by Breitbart Texas. President Trump signed an executive order on January 25th to build the promised border wall.

The federal case of Hernandez v. Mesa has made its way up the federal court system since the case was filed in 2011. The incident occurred in 2010.

Advocates for the family claim that Hernandez Guereca and others were playing a game in which they would illegally cross onto U.S. soil, run up to the barbed wire border fence and then run back, as reported by Breitbart Texas. U.S. Border Patrol agent Jesus Mesa was patrolling on his bicycle. Mesa said he acted in self-defense and the U.S. Justice Department determined in 2012 after an investigation that the shooting “occurred while smugglers attempting an illegal border crossing hurled rocks from close range at a CBP [U.S. Customs and Border Patrol] agent who was attempting to detain a suspect.”

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit held that Agent Mesa was entitled to qualified immunity “because he did not violate any clearly established rights flowing from [the Constitution.]” Hernandez, as a Mexican citizen, “had no ‘significant voluntary connection’ to the United States,” and cannot assert an excessive force claim they held. The court of appeals dismissed the case and a well-respected justice nominated by President Ronald Reagan Justice Edith H. Jones wrote, “We should discourage this litigation before it takes root.”

Huffington Post removes post that says Trump right about Swedish Terror | Feb 24, 2017

HuffPo removed post “Trump is Absolutely Right About Sweden,” but you can read it here

– Legal Insurrection

“Huffington Post hates Donald Trump.

Af first, it refused to cover his primary campaign in the Politics section, putting coverage instead in the Entertainment section. Of course, the joke was on HuffPo, since that move proved it wasn’t a serious news organization.

Then, HuffPo added a “disclaimer” to the end of each column about Trump: “Note to our readers: Donald Trump is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, birther and bully who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.”

That didn’t stop Trump from winning the presidency.

How far will HuffPo go to hurt Trump? Far enough to delete a post that credited Trump with being right in his comments about Sweden having problems due to mass immigration and migration.

The media falsely claimed Trump’s comment was about a non-existent terrorist attack the night before, when in fact it was a general comment about Sweden’s problems. Trump’s statements were followed just days later with an immigrant riot in Sweden, bearing out his warning.

An author at HuffPo wrote a post, “Trump is Absolutely Right About Sweden.” It was a huge hit, shared almost 10,000 times while it was live:

But Google Cache saved it (also archived), and here it is:

Trump is absolutely right about Sweden

Sweden has huge problems because of liberal immigration policy

Many journalists around the world are eager to condemn Donald Trump no matter what. When he tweeted about immigration in Sweden few days ago, the social media exploded. Most of the opponent said that Trump had made up the immigration problem Sweden are having. They are wrong.

Only hours later there was a riot of violence and destructions by immigrants in the capitol of Sweden, Stockholm. The police was forced to shoot with ammunition to put and end to it. In Malmö, another city south in Sweden they have struggle with gang violence and lawlessness for years. So when Trump talk about that Sweden have an immigration problem he is actually spot on.

It’s well known for Scandinavians and other Europeans that liberal immigration comes with drugs, rapes, gang wars, robbery and violence. Additional to that we see the respective nations cultures fading away, for good and for bad.

But the immigration problem is not only a Swedish predicament. The truth is, that several European cities have huge immigration problems where even the police force is afraid to interfere in some locations in these cities. UK, France and several other European countries are changing rapidly with extreme quantity of immigration. I’m not saying immigration is only bad, but a lot of problems come with poor immigration policy, as consequences we get violence, terror and gangs. The fact is that the press here in Europe hasn’t doing their job properly. There is this fear for journalists to not report the basic truth – which is that Europe has enormous problems that comes from liberal immigration politics, and as we also now can see in Sweden, but also here in Norway. But it’s not political correct for journalists to say or write that immigration in Europe is unsuccessful.

When that said, most of the people that come from other countries are behaving flawless and are a gift to our society, but then again to report that everything is all good is simply wrong and these journalists should find another job, because they do not have enough integrity that requires to be decent journalist.”

Standing Ovation for Bannon at CPAC | Feb 23, 2017

Bannon rips ‘corporatist, globalist media’

– The Hill

“White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon chided the media throughout his Thursday appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), tagging reporters with his favorite nickname: the opposition party.

“If you look at the opposition party, how they portrayed the campaign, how they portrayed the transition, how they portray the administration, it’s always wrong,” Bannon said.

“If you remember, the campaign, by the media’s description, was the most chaotic, the most disorganized, most unprofessional, had no idea what they were doing. And then you saw [the media] all crying and weeping” on election night.

Bannon, the controversial former head of Breitbart News, has embraced his role as the media’s top antagonist. Speaking alongside White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, he framed the media as part of a global war against the president’s agenda after Priebus accused the media of taking potshots at Trump over the summer of 2016.

“The corporatist, globalist media is adamantly opposed to economic nationalist agenda like Donald Trump has,” he said.

“He’s going to continue to press his agenda as economic conditions get better, as jobs get better, they are going to continue to fight. If they think they are going to give you your country back without a fight, you are mistaken. Every day, it is going to be a fight.”

House Dem IT Staffers Owed Money To Hezbollah-Connected Fugitive

– DailyCaller

“Congressional aides suspected of criminally misusing their access to House computer systems owed $100,000 to an Iraqi politician who is wanted by U.S. authorities and has been linked to Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Middle Eastern terrorist outfit.

Imran Awan and four of his relatives were employed as information technology (IT) aides by dozens of House Democrats, including members of the intelligence, foreign affairs and homeland security committees. The aides’ administrator-level IT access was terminated earlier this month amid a criminal probe by U.S. Capitol Police of a suspected security breach, including an off-site server housing congressional data.

The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has reported that while working for Congress, the Pakistani brothers controlled a limited liability corporation called Cars International A (CIA), a car dealership with odd finances, which took–and was unable to repay–a $100,000 loan from Dr. Ali Al-Attar.

Philip Giraldi, a former CIA officer, wrote that Attar “was observed in Beirut, Lebanon conversing with a Hezbollah official” in 2012–shortly after the loan was made. Attar has also been accused of helping provoke the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq as a leader of Iraqi dissidents opposed to Saddam Hussein.

After moving to the U.S., Attar made his money practicing medicine in Maryland and Virginia and defrauding Medicare, Medicaid and insurance companies by billing for non-existent medical procedures. The FBI raided his offices in 2009 and the Department of Health and Human Services sued his business partner in 2011.

Attar was indicted in March 2012 on separate tax fraud charges after the IRS and FBI found he used multiple bank accounts to hide income. He fled back to Iraq to avoid prison.”

Social Security Administration Paid $1 Billion in Benefits to Those Without a SSN

– Breitbart

“The Social Security Administration paid $1 billion in benefits to those who did not have a Social Security number (SSN), according to a recent audit.

The agency’s inspector general found errors in how the government documented representative payees or individuals who are designated to receive retirement or disability benefits on behalf of those who cannot manage the benefits themselves, the Washington Free Beacon reported.

The audit, released Friday, found thousands of instances where no SSN was found on file.

The agency paid $1 billion to 22,426 representative payees who “did not have an SSN” and had not kept any paper applications supporting an individual’s case to receive benefits on someone else’s behalf, according to the inspector general.

“Furthermore, unless it takes corrective action, we estimate SSA will pay about $182.5 million in benefits, annually, to representative payees who do not have an SSN or paper application supporting their selection,” the inspector general said.

The agency also paid $853.1 million in benefits since 2004 to individuals whom the agency terminated as representative payees.

The inspector general said the errors occurred because the agency did not keep paper records of applications or purge terminated employees from the system.

Of the audit’s sample of 100 beneficiaries, only six SSN’s were properly recorded.

The inspector general also said that illegal aliens had been receiving benefits through the representative payee system.

Illegal aliens without SSNs are allowed to receive government benefits if they are representing their minor children.”

Anaheim Protests Over Altercation Between Teenagers and Off-Duty LAPD | Feb 23, 2017

Hundreds Protesting in Anaheim Over Altercation Between 13-Year-Old Boy and Off-Duty LAPD Officer Who Fired Weapon

– KTLA

“Hundreds of people gathered in Anaheim on Wednesday night to protest the physical altercation between a teenage boy and an off-duty LAPD officer, during which the officer fired his weapon.

Aerial footage from Sky5 showed several dozen protestors in the street near Euclid Street and Palais Road in Anaheim on Wednesday night.

Cellphone video captured the physical struggle between an off-duty LAPD officer and a 13-year-old boy that led to the officer firing his weapon and the teen in Anaheim police custody.

No one was struck by gunfire during the altercation, and the officer admitted firing the weapon, police said.

The LAPD officer was not arrested, but a 13-year-old boy and another 15-year-old boy were taken into custody.

The officer was placed on administrative leave, according to an LAPD statement issued Wednesday night.

Protest organizers say the event on Wednesday night was to call for charges to be filed against the officer.”

Video surfaces of off-duty LAPD officer firing gun during altercation with juveniles

– OC Register

“YouTube videos surfaced Wednesday that purport to show a Tuesday altercation in Anaheim with several juveniles and an off-duty Los Angeles police officer who discharged a firearm during the scuffle.

The Anaheim Police Department in a Facebook post said that it is aware of numerous videos concerning the officer-involved shooting that occurred around 2:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Euclid Street and West Palais Road.

Sgt. Daron Wyatt, a spokesman for Anaheim police, declined to confirm the authenticity of the videos. However, the sergeant did say “they appear to depict portions of the incident.”

The confrontation began over ongoing issues with juveniles walking across the officer’s property, Wyatt said.

In the Tuesday confrontation, a 13-year-old boy is accused of threatening to shoot the off-duty officer, at which time the officer attempted to detain the boy until Anaheim police arrived, Wyatt said.

That led to a physical confrontation between the officer and several other juveniles, Wyatt said. At that time, the officer, who hasn’t been identified, discharged his gun once.

The 13-year-old was booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall for criminal threats and battery. A 15-year-old boy was arrested for assault and battery and released to his parents.

The altercation may have started because of a misunderstanding between the 13-year-old boy and the officer, said Gregory Perez, 16, who witnessed the incident.

“The little kid said, ‘I’m going to sue you,’ and then the guy thought he said, ‘I’m going to shoot you.’ That’s when he started grabbing the little kid.”

In a nearly 9-minute video, the officer then grabs hold of the 13-year-old boy’s hoodie and pulls him across the yard as at least a dozen teenagers crowd around. Then, several boys rush the officer and push him over a hedge.

It was unclear if the officer identified himself as a policeman, but at least one of the teenagers in a video seems to indicate that he had.

The officer, in plain clothes, reaches into his waistband, pulls out a handgun and fires a shot while continuing to hold onto the boy; it appears he shot toward the ground. No one was hit.

As the crowd scatters, the boy yells out, “He put a gun to my face!”

Anaheim police officers arrive. They put the boy in handcuffs, take the LAPD officer away from the others and interview the officer.

Those living in the neighborhood said a confrontation with teenagers who often gather along West Palais Road wasn’t unexpected, because there are often loitering teens, some disrespectful. However, they were surprised that an off-duty officer resorted to firing a gun to settle a dispute.

“He may have felt threatened,” said Richard Bjorklund, who has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years.

The neighborhood has had problems with teenagers crossing streets outside of crosswalks, blocking traffic, cutting through lawns and applying graffiti to homes, Bjorklund said.

On Wednesday afternoon, a marked Anaheim police cruiser patrolled the neighborhood and detectives went door-to-door.

The off-duty officer had not been arrested and a criminal investigation into the incident was under way.”

Woman, 3 Teens Arrested on Suspicion of Gang-Related Shooting Near High School in Anaheim

– KTLA

“A woman and three teens have been arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting near a high school in Anaheim that injured two people, police announced Thursday.

The incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in front of Gilbert High School, 1800 West Ball Rd. Responding officers found two teens with non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses said they saw a teen get out of a vehicle and fired a rifle several times at the victims as they walked in front of the school. The suspect then left the scene.

Neither of the victims were students at the school, officials said.

A 15-year-old boy was identified and arrested as the shooter and a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were arrested as accomplices Wednesday, Anaheim police said. Cassandra Rivera, 18, of Perris, was also arrested as an accomplice.

The rifle suspected of being used in the crime was recovered during the investigation, police said.

Authorities are trying to determine how the teen got ahold of the gun.

Officials did not elaborate on why the shooting was deemed gang-related.

All suspects were booked on suspicion of attempted murder, possessing a firearm within a school zone and gang charges.”

Police Chief Blames California Early Release Program for Cop’s Murder

– Breitbart

“Whittier Police Chief Jeff Piper has blamed Gov. Jerry Brown’s controversial early prison release program for the murder of one of his officers on Monday.

Officer Keith Boyer, 53, was shot dead when he and his partner, Patrick Hazell, responded to a traffic accident in a tony suburb of Los Angeles known as Whittier’s Friendly Hills on Monday morning.

At an emotional news conference later that day, Piper laid the blame squarely on AB 109, which Gov. Brown signed into law in 2011.

“We need to wake up. Enough is enough,” Piper said. “This is a senseless, senseless tragedy that did not need to be.”

The Orange County Register reports that the suspect, known gang member Michael Christopher Mejia, 26, of Los Angeles — who had been serving time for grand theft auto—was released early from Pelican Bay State Prison in April 2016.

Mejia is believed to have murdered his 46-year-old cousin, Ray Torres, in his East Los Angeles apartment, just before stealing his car and fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, resulting in the traffic accident, where he opened fire on the responding officers.

ABC 7 Los Angeles’ Carlos Grande reports that Mejia’s previous offenses include: “…Robbery, vandalism, grand theft auto, resisting arrest and attempted robbery.”

Signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown in 2011, AB109 was touted as a solution to the state’s prison overcrowding, which the state was mandated to address by a Supreme Court decision.

Rather than transfer prisoners to other states or allow private prison contractors to keep dangerous offenders behind bars, AB109 reclassified dozens of serious — and, in some cases, violent — criminal offenses as “non, non, non”—“non-violent”, “non-serious” and “non-sexual” offenses. That enabled the transfer of tens of thousands of criminals from state prison to county custody.

This prison reform plan, known as “realignment,” was met with considerable resistance by law enforcement officials across the state who worried that overcrowded county jails would be forced to dump dangerous criminals back on the streets.

That appears, in this case, to be exactly what happened.”

So, exactly where was the part time governor? Nowhere near the shooting in Whittier, he managed to make it to the Oroville Dam problem he’s managed to avoid for two weeks. /CJ

Jerry Brown makes surprise visit to Oroville Dam

– SacBee

“Nine days ago, with the Oroville Dam under stress and battered by more harsh weather, Gov. Jerry Brown said he had no immediate plans to visit the site, suggesting “I don’t think they need politicians fluttering around.”

“This is not law. It’s not politics. It’s not what I am used to,” Brown said.

On Wednesday afternoon, however, as management of the situation stabilized amid a break in the rain, Brown made a surprise visit to the incident command post at Oroville.

Brown was briefed, thanked officials, including Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea, and took the opportunity to get a first-hand look at the work around the dam, spokeswoman Deborah Hoffman said.

By air, the Democratic governor surveyed the regional flood control system, flying over Maxwell, and down the Sacramento River. Hoffman said Brown did not advise the unexpected trip because it was not intended as a media event.

The Governor’s Office documented the visit on its Twitter account.

Sen. Kamala Harris is set to take an aerial tour of Oroville on Thursday. The trip is closed to media, but Harris plans to post photos.”
