Donald Trump Calls for Voter Fraud Investigation
“President Donald Trump continues to argue that the 2016 election was fraught with illegal voting, despite deafening protest of the media that he lacks the evidence to prove it.
But Trump took a major step forward to further the narrative, by calling for an investigation in a message written on Twitter on Wednesday morning.
“I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time),” he wrote. “Depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures!”

Trump calls for ‘major investigation’ into voter fraud — after Sean Spicer was grilled on why he hadn’t
– Washington Post
“White House press secretary Sean Spicer had no good answer for one important question Tuesday.
After several reporters tried (and largely failed) to nail Spicer down on the source for President Trump’s bogus claim that between 3 million and 5 million people voted illegally in the 2016 election, NPR’s Mara Liasson got to the root of the matter: If Trump truly believes there were so many illegal votes, she asked, why hasn’t he called for investigations?
Spicer tried to deflect and restate his previous boilerplate answer — that Trump believes what he believes — but Liasson pressed him. Eventually, Spicer granted that “Maybe we will [investigate].”
Once you get past the lack of a factual basis for Trump’s strange and incredible claim, this is what really doesn’t make sense about it. Trump is alleging that as many as 3.6 percent of the votes cast in a 2016 contest decided by even fewer votes may have been illegitimate. He’s saying the number of illegal votes may have been larger than the populations of 38 states. He’s saying that as many as 30 to 40 percent of the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States cast ballots.
If that’s even close to true, it’s a massive, unprecedented electoral scandal that requires investigations to, if nothing else, prevent it from happening again. And that would seem to be something Trump, with his hard-line policy on illegal immigrants and pre-election warnings of large-scale voter fraud, should clearly support. The idea that Trump would truly believe this but not investigate it as one of his first priorities makes precisely zero sense.
Update: Apparently in response to the questions about why there were no calls for a voter-fraud investigation on Tuesday, Trump on Wednesday morning tweeted that he will indeed call for one.”

Even if there were zero voter fraud, wouldn’t you want to know rather than just guess?
“We’ve now heard that Donald Trump will be calling for a serious investigation of voter fraud. This is a move which was met by howls of protest from liberals across the board. This frustrating conversation is once again sucking up the news cycle, with Dan Balz at the Washington Post going so far as to say that the new president is endangering democracy itself.
The reality is that Trump is the only one proposing something which has even a chance of ending this debate once and for all. His critics are saying that he’s making claims about voter fraud which are ether flat out lies or, at minimum, can’t be proved. The second part of that claim is correct. He can’t prove it. Of course, the uncomfortable (for some) truth is that the people saying there wasn’t any widespread voter fraud can’t prove that either.
Suffice it to say that if you think you know that there is either no voter fraud or there is some amount of it which you can accurately estimate, you’re fooling yourself.
With that as a starting point, here’s some of what we do actually know. In the most recent election, 1/3 of voting machines in one Michigan county recorded more votes than the actual totals. In Florida, just before the election, five people complaining about not receiving their absentee ballots discovered that somebody else had cast them for them. (And those were five people in one small area who actually took the time to go complain. Yeah… I’m sure they were the only ones, right?) In Illinois, people were found to be offering cash for votes. When somebody bothered to check in one Colorado county, the dead were found to be voting with alarming regularity. In one southern California county there were hundreds more votes cast by the dead.
I could go on, but it would quickly bore you I’m sure. But here’s the point. Those do remain isolated incidents in terms of what can actually be documented. Maybe those five absentee ballots in Florida were the only ones. Or maybe there were thousands and those were just the ones we found. Either way… wouldn’t you want to know?”

TRUE THE VOTE SUPPORTS PRESIDENT TRUMP’S CALL TO INVESTIGATE ELECTION FRAUD READY TO LEAD FORENSIC AUDIT EFFORT
“True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht offers this response to President Trump’s recent announcement calling for a nationwide investigation in to voter fraud.
“I am incredibly optimistic that we may be able to finally tackle the very real problems plaguing our election processes. The chaos documented during the 2016 election cycle was the clearest and loudest warning shot to date – systemic election problems must be resolved, or they will soon be the cause of a national crisis.
Current research exists only in silos of disparate data and shallow analysis, offering no basis for comprehensive examination. Known problems, like non-citizen voting, are rarely chronicled and anecdotal evidence is insufficient.
It is for this reason that True the Vote, supported by a select group of technologists, statisticians, researchers, auditors, scholars, futurists, election law experts, and process specialists, is leading a forensic audit with targeted investigations to expose election fraud and offer solutions.
I am incredibly optimistic that we may be able to finally tackle the very real problems plaguing our election processes. The chaos documented during the 2016 election cycle was the clearest and loudest warning shot to date – systemic election problems must be resolved, or they will soon be the cause of a national crisis.
The audit is phase one of our four year plan to include; development of a American Voter ID Program, Evaluation of Enhanced Election Technologies, Identifying Dynamic Voter Registration Verification Processes, and Development of Model Legislation.
We look forward to working with the Trump Administration in whatever way possible.
If our elections are not truly fair, we are not truly free.”
