Who Has a Right to Come to the United States of America? | Nov 17 2016

Tucker Carlson’s interview with an anti-Trump protester demonstrates college cluelessness

– Daily Caller

“Behold Tucker Carlson, untilizing his affable wit and informed logic to challenge the very premise of Rutgers student Alex Uematsu’s reason for protesting President-elect Trump: Immigration policyCarlson begins his interview with a simple question: “Who do you think has a right to come to this country?”

Uematsu, bless his heart, took the bait and relexivly answered that everyone has a right to come to America. From that point the Rutgers student was forced to defend his position and the logical outcomes of his simplistic notion. Clearly defending his position is something he had not been forced to do in his many years in academia because Carlson picked apart every angle of his Utopian, border-less dream.

CARLSON: Do you think people have a right to lock their doors? Or do you think they have an obligation to let them in? You’re saying the united states has no right to prevent people who want to come here from coming here. I’m asking, do you have a right to keep people out who want to share your apartment with you?

UEMATSU: I think that’s not really a direct analogy. Obviously a nation state is very different from an individual.

CARLSON: It belongs to the citizen so they should be able to decide who comes in or out, wouldn’t you agree? doesn’t a country belong to its citizens?

UEMATSU: I think…  I think that there are certain things…

CARLSON: I think you need to think this through, Alex.”

Democrats Seek To Protect Schemers From Deportation Under Donald Trump

– HuffingtonPost

mexico-trainx

“Democrats are pressuring President Barack Obama to do whatever he can before leaving office to protect the more than 740,000 undocumented young people to whom he granted temporary work permits from the threat of deportation under the new administration.

On Thursday, Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Calif.) and Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) asked Obama to issue pardons to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, many of whom fear they could soon be under threat of deportation from President-elect Donald Trump.

The request is a long shot. Obama created the program for so-called Dreamers using executive authority, and there’s nothing to stop Trump from taking it away using the same powers. DACA recipients who obtained a work permit under the program fear they would be under increased threat from the incoming administration, especially since it would have access to their personal information ― though Trump has said he would focus on deporting convicted criminals.

There’s also debate over whether further action would be a good idea or even legally possible ― or if Dreamers and their supporters would be better served by putting pressure on the incoming president rather than one whose days in power are ending.”

California Democrats ask Obama to pardon nearly 750,000 Dreamers, but White House says it wouldn’t work

“The members of Congress who convinced President Obama to grant temporary legal status to hundreds of thousands of people brought into the country illegally as children are now asking him to protect them from being deported under President-elect Donald Trump.

A White House official was cool to the idea Thursday.

California Reps. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) and Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-Downey) and Illinois Rep. Luis Gutiérrez sent a letter to Obama Thursday asking him to use the pardon authority granted to him by Article II of the U.S. Constitution to forgive the past and future civil immigration offenses of nearly 750,000 people.

That would keep them from being deported, but would leave them in legal limbo without work permits or visas. Without an immigration offense on their records, it would be substantially easier to apply for legal status.

“They wouldn’t have a piece of paper, they wouldn’t have work authorization, but they wouldn’t have to be living in fear every moment of their lives about deportation,” Lofgren said after a news conference announcing the letter.

Lofgren, a former immigration attorney, said the pardoned charges would likely be the civil offenses of entry without authorization and presence without authorization.

But a White House official sent signals late Thursday that the administration is not considering a pardon for Dreamers because it does not believe a pardon would grant them legal status.

“We note that the clemency power could not give legal status to any undocumented individual. As we have repeatedly said for years, only Congress can create legal status for undocumented individuals,” a White House official said.”

Question: Can President Obama pardon foreign citizens? Carter pardoned those U.S. citizens who fled to Canada during the Vietnam War. The difference is, those who fled were citizens. The DACA schemers are foreign nationals subject to the jurisdiction of their country of origin. If Obama tries this, will other foreign leaders provide pardons for any U.S. citizens accused or convicted of crimes? /CJ
