Maybe it’s me, but if your headline includes the phrase :”police car smashed,” perhaps you should go ahead and call it a riot and not the benign and righteous sounding “protest.”
The Times write-up of the ugly violence begins with more apologetic language:
Hundreds of demonstrators filled the street outside the Orange County amphitheater where Donald Trump held a rally Thursday night…
“Demonstrators”??? This is a very deliberate use of language. When you have a righteous cause, you’re a “demonstrator.” The Times is using language equating these thugs with someone marching in Selma. “Demonstrators” sounds heroic.
Let’s not forget what these people are rioting about: A political rally consisting of American citizens peacefully assembling (see the Bill of Rights) for the purpose of expressing a political opinion (Ibid).
The best example of journalists siding with the rioting thugs comes from our pals at the Washington Post. First, they use the benign word “clash” to describe the riots.
Trump protesters clashed with police officers here after a campaign rally Thursday hosted by the Republican presidential candidate.
It was just a “clash” everybody. Don’t worry. Of course, when you see what “protesters clashed with police officers” looks like, it sure resembles a riot:
The Post also managed to miss a key part of the political motivations behind the riots. First hand accounts on social media show the anti-free speech hooligans waving Mexican flags as they smashed a cop car and bloodied the face of a peaceful citizen.
How would the average American react knowing that the rioters were waving the flag of a foreign nation as they bullied American citizens?
The Washington Post doesn’t want to find out. Not only is there no mention off the Mexican flag in their report (posted at 5:11 AM, Friday) but they also accompany their story with a picture of a protester standing behind a giant American flag.”
L.A. Times Worries About ‘Unintended Consequences’ of Mexican Flags at Anti-Trump Protest
“Um… Could you anti-Trump protesters please not display so many Mexican flags when protesting against Trump? You might not realize it but it will only help him in the California primary in June.
That is the big worry of the Los Angeles Times in reporting about the protests against Donald Trump yesterday in Costa Mesa. Here is the Times wringing its hands in worry as reported by Ruben Vives and Shelby Grad, about the “unintended consequences” of displaying the Mexican flag which proved counter-productive in the past:
The protests outside Donald Trump’s rally in Costa Mesa on Thursday night appear to point to an upcoming month of activism by Latinos and others as the GOP front-runner tries to seal the presidential nomination in the state.
Hundreds of demonstrators filled the street outside the Orange County amphitheater where Trump held a rally Thursday night, stomping on cars, hurling rocks at motorists and forcefully declaring their opposition to the Republican presidential candidate. At least 17 were arrested.
So the “protests” were really more like riots. Now on to the big concern of the Los Angeles Times:
Traffic came to a halt as protesters walked in the roadway, some waving American and Mexican flags. Protesters smashed a window on at least one police cruiser, punctured the tires of a police sport utility vehicle and at one point, tried to flip a police car.
Video footage showed some demonstrators hurling debris at a passing pickup. One group carried benches and blocked the entrance to the 55 Freeway along Newport Boulevard, with some tossing rocks at motorists near the on-ramp.
It’s hard to know how such protests will impact the GOP race.
Some conservatives pointed with outrage to the use of the Mexican flag during the Costa Mesa protest.
During the anti-Proposition 187 rallies of 1994, the flying of the Mexican flag may have increased support for the initiative, which would have denied public services to immigrants here illegally. It was passed by voters but overturned by the courts.
Protesters carrying the Mexican flag during the 2006 protests also sparked debate.
As those protests continued, there were fewer Mexican flags and more American flags. That happened in part because Spanish-language DJs who promoted the demonstration during their radio shows urged participants to carry American flags to show their patriotism.
“If we want to live here, we want to demonstrate that we love this country and we love the American flag,” DJ Eddie “El Piolin” Sotelo said at the time.
Psst! Could you protesters/rioters at least fake patriotism by waving American, not Mexican, flags? It’s only temporary in order to fool public opinion.
The Times and its allies might have to work very hard to convince anti-Trump protesters to not display Mexican flags so prominently since, as you can see in raw footage of yesterday’s protest/riot, that flag they so desperately want to keep under wraps for PR purposes makes an ubiquitous appearance throughout the video.”
As a California voter, be aware that local elections in some areas are held on dates that do not coincide with statewide election dates. The 15-day close of registration deadline for these local elections varies depending on the actual date of the election. If you need to know a deadline for a local election, contact your county elections office.
Mexican flag-waving protesters clash with cops at California Trump rally

“Police clashed with hundreds of protesters outside Donald Trump’s rally in Southern California on Thursday night.
At least one police car was smashed up as hundreds of demonstrators – many of them waving Mexican flags – took to the streets outside the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa, Orange County where Trump was speaking.
The protesters flooded the street outside the amphitheater with some stomping on cars, hurling rocks at motorists and forcefully declaring their opposition to Trump – bringing traffic to a halt and creating a tense standoff with authorities.
One Trump supporter was pictured with a bloody facing after clashing with the anti-Trump activists, many of whom were young Hispanic people.
The violence in Southern California where Latinos make up a large segment of the population suggests Trump may face more of this in the days to come, as he campaigns ahead of the state’s June 7 primary.”
– Great photos and overnight coverage. It would be a profound mistake to confuse all Latinos with those supporting illegal alien immigration. The objectives and goals certainly run counter to those legal residents and citizens who support Donald Trump.
In Mexico the word for ‘pet’ is mascota or mascot. I certainly hope those protestors waving the Mexican flag are treating it like a pet, like a mascot at a soccer match. Because if it is not waved lightly, but instead with anger and aggression in a foreign land, it becomes a symbol not of frivolity but of menace and invasion. /CJ
Anti-Trump Protests Rage, Mexican Flags Fly Outside CA Trump Rally
“Angry protesters swarmed outside a Donald Trump campaign rally in Costa Mesa, California Thursday night, drawing scores of police in riot gear and on horseback as Trump supporters responded singing God bless America and the Star Spangled Banner.
Thousands of Trump supporters were turned away as the venue reached capacity. First hand accounts from those stuck outside counted the initial wave of protesters at 70, but the crowd grew into the hundreds.
Trump supporter Walter Krokosz told Breitbart News, “They were very aggressive. When we were leaving there were a lot of people in cars, Mexican flags hanging out the windows. A guy was doing donuts and the intersection was shut down. We saw people marching through the intersection.” Krokosz is a legal immigrant from Poland and a veteran of the U.S. Army, retired Chief Petty Officer.
Trump supporters outside the rally sang patriotic songs. A group of 8 to 12-year-old kids for Trump called out cheers. One cheer blasted Obamacare.
“The Trump supporters were the peaceful people singing patriotic songs, festive and happy, while the protesters were very angry and high aggression. We were in line sharing stories as Wally gave away pins and shared stories of military service,” rally attendee Terry Krokosz told Breitbart News.
At least one police car was vandalized, its windshield smashed. A man jumped on top of the vehicle in an effort to cause more damage. Then a group attempted to flip the car, according to CBS News.”

Donald Trump in O.C.: Tensions mount as police in riot gear separate protesters, supporters
“Police in riot gear worked to separate a growing crowd of Donald Trump protesters from supporters still trying to get into the packed Pacific Amphitheatre minutes before the Republican presidential candidate was scheduled to make his first primary campaign speech in California.
Roughly a dozen backup deputies were called in to further separate the two sides as the anti-Trump contingent appeared to steadily walk forward and push back the horses. Those on the pro-Trump side were told to stand on the sidewalk.
“It was scary,” Chelsea Rogers, 25, a Costa Mesa cosmetologist who came to the rally with her 16-year-old brother and who supports Trump. “If it gets any crazier, I don’t know what the police will do.”
On the anti-Trump side, Katrina Mendoza, 22, an Orange Coast college student, quickly walked away from the crowds as her friends urged her not to go back to the protest.
“A lady tried to hit me,” Mendoza said. “She called me disgusting and told me to go back to my country. But I was born here.”
The atmosphere outside became increasingly tense as both sides continued shouting obscenities, with hundreds of protesters cordoned off in a portion of the parking lot.
Inside the amphitheater, the atmosphere more closely resembled a rock concert, with a huge American flag hanging behind the speaker’s podium and Elton John music blasting from loudspeakers.
The theater was about 85 percent full near the 7 p.m. scheduled start time, with more people still trying to get in as the crowd got ready for Trump to take the stage. As of 7:30, Trump still had not spoken.”
Trump fans were waving American flags and chanting “USA,” with signs that read “Patriotically Correct” and “Black Christian women love Trump.”
The pro-Trump group was largely quiet awaiting the opening of the venue. As of 4 p.m., hours before the candidate was schedule to speak, there were few visible signs of anti-Trump protesters.
Trump’s choice of Orange County for his first major California event of the year is no surprise. While the county’s increasing ethnic diversity has contributed to Republican voter registration recently slipping below 40 percent, the GOP still has an 8-point advantage over Democrats and continues its longstanding national reputation as a Republican powerhouse.
Its many wealthy donors also make it a national fundraising hub for GOP candidates.
The stop in California indicates Trump has turned his attention to the state that could prove the most crucial yet in his drive to be the Republican standard bearer.
The 1,237 delegates Trump needs to secure the nomination in advance of the July convention is within reach. California’s 172 delegates – the most of any state – could determine whether he reaches that benchmark or must continue the battle at the convention.
While Election Day is June 7, there is a more immediate urgency to connect with the state’s voters because mail ballots begin going out in 11 days.”
‘Bernie Or Bust’: Bernie Sanders’ Supporters Vow Not To Support Hillary Clinton Even If He Endorses Her
In the event that Bernie Sanders does not get the Democratic nomination in the 2016 presidential race, the Democratic party has a huge problem on their hands. Many of Sanders’ supporters are making it clear that they are “Bernie or Bust,” meaning that if he doesn’t get the nomination, they still won’t vote for Hillary Clinton. This spells big trouble for the Clinton campaign and will definitely make it hard for her to beat any Republican nominee.
Bernie Sanders has been compared to Ralph Nader as far as his power to split the Democratic party, but that isn’t necessarily the case. Sanders has said before, whether it will actually be the case or not, that he won’t run as an Independent if he doesn’t win the Democratic nomination. That doesn’t mean all his supporters are a sure thing to move on over to vote for Hillary Clinton though. Actually, many Sanders supporters have vowed to vote “Bernie or Bust” and will either write him in for the general election or vote for any number of people who are not Hillary Clinton. The Revolt Against Plutocracy campaign is asking Bernie Sanders’ supporters to make a pledge to either write in Sanders or vote for the Green Party in the event that he doesn’t win the Democratic nomination.
“ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Supporters and opponents of Donald Trump clashed outside City Hall, and five people, including two little girls, were pepper-sprayed by a demonstrator during the heated confrontation, police said.
No serious injuries and no arrests were reported in Tuesday’s clash as about 50 people confronted each other in the Orange County community.
Backers waving U.S. flags and pro-Trump signs were met by opponents and a shouting match began before a City Council meeting where an anti-Trump resolution had been proposed that the council eventually chose to take no action on.
At one point, an opponent unleashed a hand-held pepper-spray device on the pro-Trump crowd.
Five people, including two girls ages 8 and 11, were exposed to the eye-stinging spray, police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said. Three were treated at the scene by paramedics.
The man fled, but police were looking for him, Wyatt said.
One woman wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat comforted the girls, whose faces were streaked with tears. The girls complained that their eyes and mouths hurt.
“I can feel it now, it’s pungent,” the woman, Lilia Zapatos, told KNBC-TV minutes after she was sprayed.
Linda Reedy of Laguna Niguel, a member of the pro-Trump group We the People Rising, pressed an ice pack to her face after being hit by the spray.
The anti-Trump group goaded her and her friends, and one man jumped on one of her friends, she said.
“I just think they’re so out of control,” Reedy told the Los Angeles Times. “I’m so sick of the anger in this country.”
The confrontation occurred before the City Council discussed a resolution proposed by one councilwoman condemning what it called Trump’s divisive rhetoric.
The motion said Trump’s remarks – which have been perceived as offensive to Mexican immigrants, Muslims and other groups – are contrary to Constitutional principles and don’t reflect Anaheim’s “guiding principles of inclusiveness and kindness.”
The arguments from outside continued during the public comment period inside, but remained civil as the meeting stretched for hours into the night. Eventually the council voted 3-2 to take no action on the resolution.”

Anti-Trump Latino Demonstrator Pepper Sprays Latino Children In California
“Five people, including two children, fell victim to pepper spray used by an anti-Donald Trump demonstrator in Anaheim, California Tuesday night.
Supporters and foes of Trump’s presidential campaign clashed outside Anaheim’s City Hall, where the city council convened to consider a resolution that would have officially denounced Trump’s candidacy. Councilwoman Kris Murray, a white woman, said she introduced the resolution to stand up for racial minorities hurt by Trump’s rhetoric.
Tensions eventually escalated enough that one of the demonstrators on the anti-Trump side whipped out a can of pepper spray and unloaded on the Trump backers. Five people were hit, including two adult female Trump supporters and two girls aged eight and 11.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said three people were treated at the scene by medical personnel, according to The Orange County Register.
Television coverage of the protest produced by KCAL shows the aftermath of the attack, with a young girl crying hysterically while being comforted by an adult woman wearing a Make America Great Again hat.”

20,000 illegals with criminal convictions released into U.S. communities in 2015
“Homeland Security has made some gains in detaining criminal aliens but still released into the community nearly 20,000 immigrants last year who’d already been convicted of crimes — including hundreds charges with sexual assault, kidnapping or homicide — according to figures sent to Congress this week.
Between them the aliens notched a total of 64,000 crimes, including 12,307 drunken driving convictions, 1,728 cases of assault, 216 kidnappings and more than 200 homicide or manslaughter convictions, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform ahead of a hearing Thursday.
“These are not just numbers. These are individuals in this country illegally who were arrested, prosecuted and convicted. But instead of removing these criminals, ICE put them back on American streets,” said Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz.
One of those released by ICE in 2015, Haitian illegal immigrant Jean Jacques, would go on to kill a young woman in Connecticut just months later, stabbing Casey Chadwick to death. Her mother, Wendy Hartling, will testify to the Oversight Committee alongside relatives of other victims of illegal immigrants’ crimes.
Jacques had previously served time for attempted murder and was supposed to have been deported after that. But ICE officials said he wouldn’t produce documents proving his identity, and Haiti refused to accept him without those documents. ICE said it had to release him instead.
Those kinds of releases have been a black eye for the administration in recent years, with Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and ICE Director Sarah R. Saldana saying they need to do a better job of keeping serious criminals in custody as they await deportation.”
– If a debate happens in a Central Valley city and no one watches it because no one covered it, does it count? Like a tree falling in the forest….It wasn’t covered, which of course results in two ‘front runners.’
Only in California.
With few exceptions, hard to believe these are the best & brightest California has to offer to represent its citizens in the US Senate. Harder to believe the MSM did not cover the debate in its entirety, nor that the full debate is not available to view anywhere. We’re still looking.
However the MSM will gladly give you their intepretation of the event, as usual focusing on ‘style’ rather than substance. /CJ
California: U.S. Senate candidates’ debate spotlights styles of Kamala Harris, Loretta Sanchez
“STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — What they lacked in policy distinctions the two Democrats vying for California’s first open U.S. Senate seat in decades made up for in stylistic differences, with front-runner Attorney General Kamala Harris sticking to an attorney’s measured tones and Rep. Loretta Sanchez shooting from the hip and milking every moment for a quip.
In Monday night’s debate, Harris and Sanchez agreed on the need to create path to citizenship for people living in the United States illegally, on restricting access to weapons for those with a criminal record or history of mental illness and on the need to provide free community college education.
With only six weeks remaining until the primary, former Republican party chairmen Tom Del Beccaro and Duf Sundheim and physicist and entrepreneur Ron Unz are all trying to edge their way into voters’ minds as they vie to replace retiring U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer.
The three GOP candidates all sharply differed with Obama on national security, arguing that the U.S. administration has taken a failed approach in the Middle East.
Del Beccaro used his highest profile opportunity to date to take a few shots at Harris, criticizing her Department of Justice for raids earlier this month against an anti-abortion activist who made undercover videos at Planned Parenthood clinics. Harris later told reporters the raid was justified and she is doing her job as the state’s top law enforcement officer.
Tom Del Beccaro to Kamala Harris: Leave Daleiden Alone
“Tom Del Beccaro, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from California, said during a debate Monday evening that state California Attorney General Kamala Harris should end her investigation into David Daleiden, the investigative journalist who produced the videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s apparent fetal tissue trafficking scandal.
Del Beccaro, the former chairman of the California Republican Party, called on Harris – who is also a U.S. Senate candidate – to abandon the investigation into Daleiden.
Harris’ campaign website features a petition asking voters to support and protect Planned Parenthood’s federal funding. Harris received $15,000 from Planned Parenthood during her re-election campaign in 2014.
Her office conducted a raid on Daleiden’s apartment earlier in April and seized his personal property after a Los Angeles Times columnist challenged Harris for dragging her feet on an indictment of Daleiden.
Daleiden had previously been indicted in Harris County, Texas in what two pro-choice law professors referred to as “a stunning act of legal jujitsu.” The professors wrote that the indictment of Daleiden was a “deeply disturbing” outcome, both for the First Amendment and undercover citizen journalists attempting to expose corruption.
Attorney General Harris was denounced by national pro-life groups for what they argue is an abuse of power and conflict of interest.”
– Since, remarkably there is no easily available video of the entire senate race debate, no one will know if any questions were asked of Ms. Harris about the Bologna Family murders that occured in San Fran on her watch as District Attorney. Not a pretty picture. /CJ

Edwin Ramos won’t face death penalty
Edwin Ramos: Suspect in slayings of S.F. man, 2 sons will face life at most
– SF Gate | 2008
“San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris will not seek the death penalty for an alleged gang member accused of murdering a father and two of his sons, a prosecutor said Thursday.
The announcement in San Francisco Superior Court means that Edwin Ramos will at most serve life in prison without parole if convicted of the June 22, 2008, slayings of Tony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16.
The decision is in keeping with Harris’ campaign promise never to seek the death penalty. There had been speculation, however, that with Harris running for state attorney general next year, she might shift direction in an especially notorious crime.”
“America’s digital adversaries may have spent years eavesdropping on officials’ private phone conversations through vulnerabilities in the global cell phone network, according to security experts.
A recent “60 Minutes” segment displayed the extent of the weakness, spurring government into action this week. Federal agencies vowed to investigate and Capitol Hill has begun looking into the issue.
Specialists believe countries like China, Russia and Iran have all likely exploited the deficiency to record calls, pilfer phone data and remotely track high-value targets.
“I would be flabbergasted if these foreign governments were not monitoring large numbers of American officials on their cell phones,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) told The Hill.
Lieu, who holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science, offered up his phone to German computer scientist Karsten Nohl to test the extent of the vulnerability on “60 Minutes.” Hackers were able to record Lieu’s calls, view his contacts and monitor his movements, armed with just the Los Angeles Democrat’s phone number.
Despite the government’s pledges to rectify the problem, Lieu and security researchers insist officials have lost valuable time.
The vulnerabilities have been known for several years, and even bubbled up in the media in late 2014. After the flaws came back into the spotlight, Lieu said the government failed to take basic steps.
For instance, he said, “I am still dumbfounded as to why I have yet to see an alert go out to members of Congress.”
Most telecom companies use decades-old protocols known as Signaling System No. 7 or SS7 to direct mobile communications around the world.
It is these protocols that are seen as insecure.
“The SS7 network was never designed to be secure,” explained Les Goldsmith, a researcher with Las Vegas security firm ESD. “It was originally a cable in Europe. It had no encryption.”
But SS7 serves a vital purpose. The network helps keep calls connected as users bounce from cell tower to cell tower, and routes text messages to their final location. It’s also how people get service when they travel to another country, outside the reach of their normal carrier.
The problem is that anyone who can gain entry to the SS7 system can also repurpose these signals and intercept calls and texts.
The attack surface is vast. There are over 800 cell phone networks around the world, each with roughly 100 to 200 interlocking roaming agreements with other networks, Goldsmith said.
That means virtually every cell phone network is interconnected, allowing hackers to potentially tap any phone, regardless of location. Lieu’s phone, for example, was infiltrated from Germany.
“The smallest carrier in the Middle East … can actually reach into AT&T and Verizon’s network,” said Christopher Soghoian, principal technologist for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
And the problem is not going away. SS7 will continue to be used for well over a decade, experts predict.
The system’s shortcomings are not news to many security researchers and even to some government officials.”
How hackers eavesdropped on a US Congressman using only his phone number
SS7 routing protocol also exposes locations, contacts, and other sensitive data.
“A US Congressman has learned first-hand just how vulnerable cellphones are to eavesdropping and geographic tracking after hackers were able to record his calls and monitor his movements using nothing more than the public ten-digit phone number associated with the handset he used.
The stalking of US Representative Ted Lieu’s smartphone was carried out with his permission for a piece broadcast Sunday night by 60 Minutes. Karsten Nohl of Germany-based Security Research Labs was able to record any call made to or from the phone and to track its precise location in real-time as the California congressman traveled to various points in the southern part of the state. At one point, 60 minutes played for Lieu a crystal-clear recording Nohl made of one call that discussed data collection practices by the US National Security Agency. While SR Labs had permission to carry out the surveillance, there’s nothing stopping malicious hackers from doing the same thing.
The representative said he had two reactions: “First it’s really creepy,” he said. “And second it makes me angry. They could hear any call. Pretty much anyone has a cell phone. It could be stock trades you want someone to execute. It could be a call with a bank.”
The hack was done by accessing Signalling System No. 7, or SS7, a telephony signalling language used by more than 800 telecommunication companies around the world to allow their networks to interoperate. SS7 is the routing protocol that, for instance, allows a T-Mobile subscriber to connect to the Deutsche Telekom network while traveling in Germany. It also provides a way for someone on one continent to send text messages to a phone located on another continent. SS7 also makes individuals’ subscriber data available to anyone with access to SS7.”

Any phone can get hacked via a global cellular network vulnerability
“Vulnerability in the Signaling System Seven (SS7) has been recently exploited to track location, snoop on messages and phone calls on any type of smartphone, researchers found.
Karsten Nohl, a German hacker, demonstrated how, by leveraging the flaw, he was able to track all this personal information from an iPhone owned by US Congressman Ted Lieu.
First, it’s really creepy, and second, it makes me angry,” the Congressman said in a TV show.
The problem resides in SS7 or Signalling System Number 7 – a telephony signaling protocol used by more than 800 telecommunication operators around the world to exchange information with one another, cross-carrier billing, enabling roaming, and other features.
If one of the telecom operators is hacked, everyone is exposed and a large scale of information, including voice calls, text messages, billing information, relaying metadata and subscriber data, is open to interception.
Also, the vulnerability affects all phones, whether they’re running iOS or Android. Reportedly, the designing flaws in SS7 have been in circulation since 2014.
The people who knew about this flaw [or flaws] should be fired,” Lieu added. “You can’t have 300-some Million Americans—and really, right, the global citizenry — be at risk of having their phone conversations intercepted with a known flaw, simply because some intelligence agencies might get some data.”
The best way users can protect conversations and mobile data is to encrypt it before it leaves the smartphone.”
Rep. Ted Lieu Blames NSA For Unpatched Carrier Vulnerability That Allowed His Calls To Be Intercepted On ’60 Minutes’
– Tom’s Hardware
“Back in December 2014, several white hat hackers, including Karsten Nohl, exposed how the carriers’ weakly protected SS7 system can be hacked by just about anyone, without too much expense. The targets could include even U.S. Congress members, as well as the U.S. President if he uses the regular carrier network for calls–as President Obama did last year when he called Rep. Ted Lieu of California directly, according to Lieu.
Intelligence Agencies Must Take Responsibility For Weak Security
The phone networks both in the U.S. and abroad were built on weak security decades ago, in part because they didn’t realize how vulnerable these systems could be in the future, and in part because intelligence agencies wanted their phone calls to be easily intercepted. However, this has now backfired in a significant way, with any hacker from anywhere in the world being able to spy on phone calls or texts from a U.S. Congressman, or a judge, journalist, or anyone who they may deem a target.
This is yet another failure of the intelligence agencies and governments who put spying ahead of actual security. It’s now been proven again and again that when you put holes into a system’s security, those holes can be used by anyone once they’re discovered. It’s usually just a matter of time until those holes are discovered, but then it may take many more years to fix, because it’s too hard to get all the global phone carriers to upgrade to a more secure system all at once.
We’re now about to upgrade to another next-generation network, the 5G network, but yet again it doesn’t seem like security is a primary focus. With 5G supposed to arrive by 2020, and then last for at least another 7-8 years before upgrading to something else, we’re looking at another 10-15 years in which the security of the phone networks would be vulnerable to hackers.”
