Global Warming –
– Frontline / PBS
Very interesting documentary from Frontline on the Global Warming/Climate Change/Extreme weather debate.
It is a common sentence that Knowledge is power; but who hath duly considered or set forth the power of Ignorance? Knowledge slowly builds up what Ignorance in an hour pulls down. Knowledge, through patient and frugal centuries, enlarges discovery and makes record of it; Ignorance, wanting its day’s dinner, lights a fire with the record, and gives a flavor to its one roast with the burnt souls of many generations.”
…and there are those who say that the humanities are no longer necessary for today’s students.”
Obama To Turkey: Seal Off The Border To Syria, Turkey To Obama: Handle Mexico First
– DailyCaller / Jonah Bennett
“President Barack Obama wants Turkey to close its 60-mile-long border with Syria to end the influx of new Islamic State fighters pouring into Syria and Iraq.
If Turkey acquiesces to Obama’s demands, no entry points will remain between the two countries. The entire border is 550 miles long, The Wall Street Journal reports.
But a Turkish official quickly pointed out to The Wall Street Journal the irony in Washington’s call to close off the border, given the U.S. is completely unable to stop flows in and out of Mexico.
In response, a U.S. official said, “If we were at war with Mexico, we’d close that border.”
Obama in Paris: ‘Mass Shootings Don’t Happen in Other Countries’
– PJ Media
President Selfie: Clueless In Paris
“While giving a press conference in Paris, President Barack Obama told reporters that the mass shootings that plague the United States just never happen in other countries.
“With respect to Planned Parenthood, obviously, my heart goes out to the families of those impacted,” Obama said in response to a reporter’s question. “I mean, I say this every time we’ve got one of these mass shootings; this just doesn’t happen in other countries.”
– Don’t happen in other countries? Like France? Like Norway? Truly an embarrassment on a global scale.

….Meanwhile Gov Moonbeam is in Paris solving the Universe while dodging Oil Investment Questions in California
– Dan Walters / Laer Pierce Washington Times
– From several sources all about ‘environmental’ green Jerry Brown has been involved in all sorts of deals which benefited himself, his family and campaign donors.
“Jerry Brown, alone among the Brown children, didn’t get a share of the business, but that changed after Alaskan oil came on the scene and threatened the monopoly Indonesian oil had in California’s power plants.
Chevron had just finished building a refinery in El Segundo that was designed to process Alaskan crude to compete against Indonesian oil for the California power-plant market. Before the facility could refine a barrel of North Slope crude, however, Jerry Brown’s Air Resources Board – headed up by his former campaign manager, Tom Quinn – passed a new air-quality standard for sulfur just barely too high for Chevron to meet with Alaskan oil. That cemented the Indonesian monopoly, and the Brown family, as the only oil provider to the California power industry.
Not surprisingly, when Jerry Brown left the governorship, Pat Brown finally gave him his own cut of the family oil business.
“To this day, Jerry’s very sensitive about it,” Mr. Walters told me. “He just hates the idea that people will bring it up because what it is, is the Brown family is in partnership with these corrupt, murderous dictators. It’s not something that a Jerry Brown wants to be associated with.”
The junta generals of Pat Brown’s day have given way to the more transparent, democratic government that rules in Indonesia today. The question here in California is: Will Jerry Brown also become more transparent and share with voters the details of this foreign influence on his personal finances?”

Porter Ranch gas leak increasing California’s greenhouse gas output by 25 percent
“Natural gas has been spewing from a ruptured well near Porter Ranch for a month, and the state Air Resources Board estimates the leak is so large that it’s increasing California’s atmospheric load of methane — the primary component of natural gas — by 25 percent.”
by Sharon McNary @ KPCC
– The leak is still spewing at this point, while our state and UC leaders are busy preparing to head off to Paris to discuss how to cut back on greenhouse gases.

On topic from Scientific American ClimateWire, this article on the Artic Permafrost on Nov 19, 2015:
““[The boreal] is such a large biome on the planet and, as a consequence, changes in that system have direct impacts on the global climate,” she said one evening, sitting on a dock jutting out into Goose Lake. Flies flitted around, and a loon laughed in the background.
“I’m not doing a very good job explaining this,” she said suddenly, with a sigh.
The boreal covers 5.3 million square miles in Europe, Asia and North America, and is an ancient carbon sink. About 20,000 years ago, ice sheets that had covered all of Canada rolled back into the Arctic. Coniferous forests rapidly expanded northward, their roots firmly planted on permafrost.
As the planet entered the summer-like Holocene Epoch 11,500 years ago, some of the southern reaches of the permafrost thawed and forests there turned to bogs and fens, which are known in Canada as muskeg. In that sense, the boreal has always been a shifting landscape.”

– My takeaway is that this happened before and the Earth dealt with it. Read it and decide for yourself.
Not sure I’d agree with the tone of the headline.
